Created by Dan Cutforth and Jane Lipsitz, the Emmy®-winning producers from TOP CHEF and TOP CHEF MASTERS, WORK OF ART: THE NEXT GREAT ARTIST features guest appearances from Sarah Jessica Parker, who also serves as one of the series’ executive producers.
Forging conversations about art, this colourful hour-long series uncovers new talent and sheds light on the artistic process that typically occurs behind closed doors. New episodes of WORK OF ART: THE NEXT GREAT ARTIST will be made available the day following their television broadcast at watch.bravo.ca.
In WORK OF ART: THE NEXT GREAT ARTIST, fine art meets pop culture with everything from industrial design to painting, photography to performance art, and more. Each week, the competitors are tasked to create original artwork in the medium of their choice, with the challenges ranging from inventive street art to the use of Parkour as inspiration. But in the end, who’s to say what is art and what isn’t? The experts. With host and judge China Chow at the helm, returning to the judging panel is Bill Powers, a New York Gallery owner and literary art contributor, as well as Jerry Saltz, senior art critic for New York Magazine. World-renowned art auctioneer Simon de Pury adds his voice of expertise as a mentor to the contestants. Each week guest judges known for challenging the mold in the constantly evolving art world join the expert panel.
This season’s competition is cut-throat, with competitors at all levels of artistic accomplishment. From a Yale grad who finished top of her class and a sculptor who studied under Marilyn Minter, to a competitor who has even had their work sold by Phillips de Pury Auction & Company, each of the 14 competitors will be forced to flex their artistic muscle in order to have a shot at the gallery show and cash prize.
WORK OF ART: THE NEXT GREAT ARTIST is produced by Pretty Matches and Magical Elves for Bravo. Dan Cutforth, Jane Lipsitz, Sarah Jessica Parker, Alison Benson and Eli Holzman serve as executive producers.
