What’s Up

Astral’s Family Channel presents the new live-action Canadian original series What’s Up, Warthogs! on Friday, March 11 at 7:30 p.m. ET/PT.

The comedy series following a group of teens as they attempt to rejuvenate their high school’s announcements is the first of three new Family Channel Original Series to premiere in 2011, followed by Really Me debuting in April and Debra! launching in May.

What’s Up, Warthogs! follows arch-rivals Eric Ortiz (Tiago Abreu) and Victoria Jagger (Karissa Staples, 90210) as they begrudgingly team up to save the on-air announcements at West Hills High from returning to the “boringpalooza” show of the past. When Eric’s off beat, yet camera shy, best friend Charlie and 12–year-old genius, Laney join the group along with a team of guest reporters, West Hills soon has a show that truly puts the students in charge.

In the first part of the series premiere episode, airing Friday, March 11 at 7:30 p.m. ET/PT, Eric and Charlie take over the morning announcements at West Hill High. Brainy Laney and her volatile science experiment join the audio/visual club and help the first show go on with a bang. In the second part of the premiere “And That’s What’s Up,” airing Friday, March 18 at 7:30 p.m. ET/PT, Eric is forced to offer his nemesis Victoria the co-anchor position to avoid cancellation of the show. Beginning Friday, March 25, What’s Up, Warthogs! moves to its regular timeslot on Fridays at 5:30 p.m. ET/PT.

Commissioned by Family Channel, What’s Up, Warthogs! is produced by Anthony Leo of Aircraft Pictures (Todd and the Book of Pure Evil) and executive produced by Andrew Rosen of Aircraft Pictures and Bill O’Dowd of Dolphin Entertainment (Zoey 101, Ned’s Declassified School Survival Guide). Created by Alex Diaz and Julie Sagalowsky, the writing team is led by showrunner Dean Batali (That 70’s Show, Buffy the Vampire Slayer).

Also on Friday, March 11, Family Channel gears up for March Break early with a lineup of premiere episodes. Leading up to the premiere of What’s Up, Warthogs!, viewers can catch new episodes of Shake It Up at 6:30 p.m. ET/PT and Wizards of Waverly Place at 7 p.m. ET/PT.

Aircraft Pictures and Dolphin Entertainment began principal photography last week in Toronto on What’s Up, Warthogs!, a 20 x 22 minute live-action tween sitcom for Family Channel.
