The CTV special CTV PRESENTS: WE DAY 2010 will air Saturday, October 30. CTV has partnered with Free The Children on We Day since its inception in 2006.

CTV announced today the launch of a new series airing in advance of WE DAY. Hosted by Free The Children’s Craig Kielburger, SHAMELESS IDEALISTS, features candid discussions with the world’s most intriguing optimists and visionaries. Premiering on CTV this coming Monday, Oct. 11 at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. ET (visit CTV.ca to confirm local broadcast times), the seven-part series launches with a special one-hour episode with K’naan. Following the on-air broadcast, the episodes will be available online at CTV.ca.

Produced in conjunction with WE DAY, the half-hour episodes feature Kielburger talking to seven idealists in front of a studio audience of approximately 1,200 high school students. In addition to K’naan (Oct. 11), SHAMELESS IDEALISTS presents in-depth interviews with Jacob Hoggard (Oct. 12), Cherie Blair (Oct. 13), Betty Williams (Oct. 14), Al Gore (TBD), Jesse Jackson (TBD), and Martin Sheen (TBD).

“The opportunity to sit down with these shameless idealists was a true privilege,” said Craig Kielburger. “These people are my heroes, and the opportunity to share their stories, advice and experience with Canadians is a dream come true.”

“As a shameless idealist himself, Craig delivers beautiful and candid interviews with some of the world’s most inspiring people,” said Susanne Boyce, President, Creative, Content and Channels, CTV Inc. “All of the idealists tell moving personal stories that motivate and challenge us all.”

The premiere episode (Oct. 11) features a remarkably candid discussion with K’naan about his personal journey from Somalia to Rexdale to international superstardom. He discusses his personal battles, the loss of friends, struggles with depression, how he would like to have a cultural impact in his home country of Somalia and how he defines success. “If I was to be successful, Somalia would be at peace,” he says.

In Episode 2 (Oct. 12), Jacob Hoggard tells Kielburger how a visit to Africa really changed his life and how he wishes he had taken better advantage of Canada’s education system. Cherie Blair (Oct. 13) talks about her efforts to change the world, about her influence as the wife of former Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, Tony Blair, and about being a feminist and a socialist. Betty Williams (Oct. 14) tells very emotional and very personal stories, discusses finding her individual voice, her view on war and world peace, and her advice for the youth in the audience. “The biggest killer in our world is apathy,” she says.

Additional episodes will be taped following Vancouver’s WE DAY celebration on Friday, Oct. 15. WE DAY Vancouver (Oct. 15) event will be streamed live at www.weday.ctv.ca.
