A commercial featuring Veep actress Julia Louis-Dreyfus has been pulled from Israeli TV after offending overweight viewers.

The commercial showed the actress rubbing the stomach of an un-pregnant co-worker and congratulating her on the baby.

The spot, for local satellite TV provider Yes (which carries Veep), was referred to as an “evident and unjustified insult to a substantial majority of the people.” Continue reading »

Homeland and Modern Family were the big winners at the 64th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards on Sunday evening.

Damian Lewis and Claire Danes both took home the prizes for lead actor and actress in a drama series while Homeland claimed the top drama prize, beating the likes of Mad Men and Downton Abbey.

Co-creators Alex Gansa and Howard Gordon also claimed the Emmy for outstanding writing.

In the comedy category, Modern Family reigned supreme. The ABC series picked up its third consecutive Emmy for outstanding comedy series while Eric Stonestreet and Julie Bowen won prizes for supporting actor/actress in a comedy series. Continue reading »

HBO Canada, a multiplex channel of Corus Entertainment’s Movie Central (Western Canada) and Astral’s The Movie Network (Eastern Canada), presents Veep, a new half-hour comedy starring Julia Louis-Dreyfus as former senator Selina Meyer, a rising star in her party and charismatic leader who seemed to have unlimited potential, until she became vice president.  

Meyer soon discovers the job is nothing like she expected, but everything she was warned about. Veep premieres Sunday, April 22 at 10 p.m. ET/MT on HBO Canada, day-and-date with the U.S.

The eight-episode season of Veep follows the whirlwind day-to-day existence of Vice President Meyer as she puts out political fires, juggles a busy public schedule and demanding private life, and defends the president’s interests, even as she tries to improve her dysfunctional relationship with the chief executive.

The ensemble cast of the show also includes Tony Hale (Arrested Development) as Gary, her right-hand man; Anna Chlumsky (In the Loop) as Amy, her chief of staff; Matt Walsh (HBOʼs Hung) as Mike, Vice President Meyerʼs weathered spokesperson; Reid Scott (My Boys) as Dan, an ambitious political aide; Timothy C. Saving Face

This 40-min documentary spotlights British cosmetic surgeon to the stars Dr. Mohammad Jawad, as he travels to his homeland in Pakistan to treat survivors of radically disfiguring acid attacks, the majority of whom are women targeted by family members. God Is The Bigger Elvis
