To honour the life of the recently departed legendary actor Ricardo Montalban, TV Land Canada pre-empts its previously scheduled programming this weekend to air a special 60-hour FANTASY ISLAND marathon. Starting Friday, January 23 at 6 p.m. ET/3 p.m. PT, viewers can watch Montalban in one of his most famous and beloved roles, the suave and debonair Mr. Roarke.

Welcome to FANTASY ISLAND! Each week, two guests travel to FANTASY ISLAND to get their wish/fantasy fulfilled by their mysterious host, the white-suited Mr. Roarke (Ricardo Montalban). Mr. Roarke would do the impossible and grant them their wishes; however, not without a twist that would allow the guest to learn something about themselves. The show proved popular enough to go the distance, lasting for seven seasons and even spawning a brief revival in the 1990s. The series also starred Hervé Villechaize.

In addition to his lead role on FANTASY ISLAND, Montalban enjoyed an impressive and varied film career, doing everything from battling Captain Kirk in Star Trek: The Wrath of Khan as Khan, to battling Frank Drebin in The Naked Gun. Over the course of his more than 60-year career, Montalban appeared in over 150 films and television series, including: GUNSMOKE, BONANZA, THE MAN FROM U.N.C.L.E., MISSION IMPOSSIBLE, I SPY, and HAWAII FIVE-O and most recently lent his voice for work for the animated KIM POSSIBLE, FAMILY GUY, and The Ant Bully.

During his lengthy career, Montalban also worked as an activist, founding the Nosotros Foundation, which aimed to improve the opportunities for Latinos to find work in Hollywood.
