Just days after the premiere episode screened on HBO in the US, the network has announced they are renewing drama Treme for a second season.

The show takes place in post-Katrina New Orleans, where ordinary New Orleanians try to rebuild their lives, their homes and their unique culture in the aftermath of the 2005 hurricane.

Treme (pronounced “treh-MAY’) boasts a cast which features John Goodman, Khandi Alexander (CSI: Miami), Wendell Pierce (The Wire) and Melissa Leo (Frozen River).

Michael Lombardo, president of HBO Programming, said, “I can’t think of another show that is more emblematic of what we aspire to be as a network than Treme. In the tradition of The Wire David Simon and Eric Overmeyer have embarked on an exploration of the soul of one of the world’s most unique cities through the lives of an exquisitely crafted cast of characters.”

Treme pulled 1.4 million viewers for its debut episode last Sunday.
