Picking up on the same night as last season’s finale, Elena (Nina Dobrev) arrives home to a nightmare as she discovers Uncle John’s (David Anders), and Jeremy’s (Steven R. McQueen) fate. After a confusing conversation with Elena about the night’s events, Damon is the first to realize that Katherine (also played by Nina Dobrev) has returned. Katherine’s arrival sends Stefan (Paul Wesley) and Damon on a path to find out what she wants, why she’s back, and how much of a threat she is to the people they love.

Stefan (Paul Wesley) is uncomfortable with Damon’s (Ian Somerhalder) new attitude toward Elena (Nina Dobrev), but Elena is more concerned about repairing her relationship with Jeremy (Steven R. It appears that vampires are still very much in when it comes to teenagers judging by the way The Vampire Diaries cleaned up at the Teen Choice Awards overnight.

The new drama series took out seven awards at the event which celebrates the most popular TV shows, movies and music according to teenage voters.

The show took out major awards in categories such as Breakout Show, Fantasy/Sci-Fi, as well as best actor and actress in Fantasy/Sci-Fi.

Gossip Girl collected four awards at the ceremony, including Best Drama series and best actor and actress in Drama.

Surprisingly, Glee managed only three wins, taking home awards in Comedy, Scene Stealer and Parental Unit.
