Homer Simpson has been crowned the greatest character created for film and television in the past 20 years.
The cartoon character has edged Harry Potter to win the title in a survey in industry magazine Entertainment Weekly.
Following the pair were Buffy The Vampire Slayer, Heath Ledger’s Joker from the Batman film, Tony Soprano and Jennifer Aniston’s Rachel from Friends.
The Simpsons’ creator Matt Groening said the character of Homer was easily relatable to its viewers.
“People can relate to Homer because we’re all secretly propelled by desires we can’t admit to,” he said.
“Homer is launching himself head-first into every single impulsive thought that occurs to him.
“His love of whatever has caught his eye is a joy to witness.”
Other characters to place in the EW poll were The X Files Moulder and Scully, South Park’s Cartman, The Office’s David Brent and Mike Myers Austin Powers.
