The Next Step

NextStepFamily Channel has given the greenlight to another season of dance series The Next Step.

The serialized dance show, produced by Toronto’s Temple Street Productions, will have 26 half-hour episodes added to the production slate and principal photography will get underway later this summer.

The commissioning decision comes just a month after the series debuted on March 8 to Family’s largest premiere audience for any series, acquired or domestic, with an unprecedented 574,500 viewers tuning in (P2+ AMA). A new dancing series is on the way to The Family Channel in the form of The Next Step.

Premiering Friday, March 8 at 7 p.m. ET/PT, the serialized reality-style drama series follows an elite group of dancers striving to make it in the world of competitive dance. Temple Street Productions Inc. (Temple Street) and Astral’s Family Channel announced today that principal photography has begun on The Next Step a single camera scripted tween drama, shot in a reality television style.

The show is created by Frank van Keeken, creator of the hit Temple Street series Wingin’ It, which also airs on Family Channel and Disney XD. The series begins shooting today in Toronto.

In addition to the 26 half-hour episodes for the channel, extra content will appear on including, an “after-show” web series featuring exclusive character interviews and behind-the-scenes footage and commentary on the series’ storylines. Continue reading »
