Montreal’s Chef Chuck Hughes, host of Chuck’s Day Off and recently the first Canadian to beat Bobby Flay on Iron Chef America, is one of ten world renowned super chefs battling to become a member of the elite Iron Chef culinary society and win a permanent spot on the series.
The Next Iron Chef: Super Chefs premieres Monday, October 31st at 10 p.m. ET/PT on Food Network Canada and, with the channel on free preview, the series will be available in over 10 million Canadian households.
Chuck’s nine competitors include: Anne Burrell (Secrets of a Restaurant Chef, Worst Cooks in America); Michael Chiarello (Bottega Restaurant, Napa Valley, Easy Entertaining with Michael Chiarello); Elizabeth Falkner (Citizen Cake, San Francisco, Iron Chef America – challenger); Alex Guarnaschelli (Butter, The Darby, New York, Alex’s Day Off, Chopped); Robert Irvine (Robert Irvine’s eat!, Hilton Head Island, Restaurant: Impossible); Beau MacMillan (Sanctuary on Camelback Mountain, Phoenix, Iron Chef America – challenger); Spike Mendelsohn (Good Stuff Eatery, Washington D.C., Iron Chef America – challenger); Marcus Samuelsson (Red Rooster Harlem, New York, 24 Hour Restaurant Battle, Chopped) and Geoffrey Zakarian (The National, The Lambs Club, New York, 24 Hour Restaurant Battle, Chopped).
“Awe-inspiring culinary talent, creative challenges, and gripping suspense – The Next Iron Chef: Super Chefs has it all,” says Barb Williams, Senior Vice President of Content, Shaw Media. “We are proud to have our own Chuck Hughes be the first Canadian ever to compete in a Next Iron Chef competition.”
“It is an honour to be competing alongside such a talented group of chefs,” says Chuck Hughes. “The everyday possibility of elimination combined with the stress of having to cook top notch food makes for the most intense emotional rollercoaster, but I’m ready to take it all on for that glimpse of what it would be like to be an Iron Chef.”
The Next Iron Chef: Super Chefs tests the 10 chefs’ kitchen skills, mental strength and masterful instincts through a series of cut-throat challenges. Yet only one winner will be inducted into the Chairman’s team on Iron Chef America, joining the prestigious ranks of Iron Chefs Bobby Flay, Marc Forgione, Masaharu Morimoto and Michael Symon. Staying true to its original format, each of this season’s eight episodes features an arduous Chairman’s Challenge and an intense new element, the Secret Ingredient Showdown, which pits the two bottom performing chefs against each other in a cook-off using only one ingredient. Hosted by Alton Brown (Iron Chef America and Good Eats) and shot in Los Angeles and New York, this season’s competition is judged by original Next Iron Chef Michael Symon, esteemed food journalist Simon Majumdar and UK Iron Chef Judy Joo.
More viewers than ever will be able to tune-in to watch the competition unfold as Food Network is offering a free preview just in time for the series launch, opening up the channel to more than 10 million additional households across the country.
Fans of Chuck Hughes’ can catch him in a new season of his hit Canadian series Chuck’s Day Off Mondays at 7 p.m. ET/4 p.m. PT on Food Network Canada.
