The return of The Daily Show and The Colbert Report marks the end of a two-month indefinite hiatus which began November 5, when the Writers Guild of America began their now nearly eight-week old strike. Although still without their writers, both shows are hopeful for a speedy resolution. Launched in the summer of 1996, The Daily Show is a nightly news parody that takes a reality-based look at news, trends, pop culture, current events, politics, sports, entertainment and the media. In each show, Stewart and a team of correspondents comment on the day’s stories employing actual news footage, tapes field pieces, in-studio guests and on-the–spot coverage of important news events.
