The Bachelor Canada

CanadianIdolThis week marks a special anniversary for Canadian reality TV and in particular, Ben Mulroney.

It is ten years this week since Canadian Idol burst onto the screen and catapulted host Mulrony into the spotlight as much as the contestants – which let’s not forget included the now mega-popular Carly Rae Jepsen.

“It was not a foregone conclusion it was going to be successful,” recalls Mulroney. “If you look at the jaded, cynical members of the press … they were convinced this was not a Canadian thing to do. ‘We don’t do stuff like this…. We don’t celebrate the way that the Americans do.’

“And yet we proved them wrong. But we had to fight very hard against that sentiment.” Continue reading »

BachelorcanadafinaleThe very first Bachelor Canada has suggested that you don’t look for love on reality TV despite the fact he is due to marry the woman he met on the show.

Brad Smith found Bianka Kamber on the first season of the City reality series and the pair are currently engaged.

However, he recommends that others don’t try to do what he did.

“I’m a guy who was single for a long time before the show,” Smith told Eligible Magazine. “I wouldn’t suggest anyone to go on reality TV necessarily to find the love of their life. I’m a freak occurrence.” Continue reading »

Former pro footballer Brad Smith found love on with Bianka Kamber on the show last year, which was the first time a local version of the wildly successful American series series had been produced in Canada.

City owner Rogers says they will wait until 2014 before rolling out the sophomore season, as it has other projects to focus on in the meantime, including Package Deal, Mother Up! and Seed. Continue reading »

With only two bachelorettes remaining – Bianka and Whitney – Brad enlisted the help of his family before making the most important decision of his life.

A whirlwind of romances has brought Brad and the bachelorettes across the country and around the world, but now, Brad must face the most important decision of his life as the first-ever season of The Bachelor Canada comes to its shocking and tearful conclusion.

The spotlight – and the pressure – was on as Brad and the bachelorettes entered a whole new kind of hot water last night on Citytv’s The Bachelor Canada “Women Tell All” special.

Hosted by Tyler Harcott, the most memorable bachelorettes reunited for the first time to dish on each other – and Brad – as they looked back on the drama of the season.

First to take the hot seat was Gabrielle, who was confronted by the bachelorettes about her direct, and sometimes harsh, nature. But bubbly fan-favourite Chantelle quickly lightened the mood, with nothing but positive things to say about her time in the mansion and decision to ultimately leave the show to be with her family. Ahead of tonight’s “Women Tell All” episode of The Bachelor Canada, host Tyler Harcott has addressed the topic of drama in The Bachelor franchise.

“I think in the States — and I live in the States — there is a sense that drama is what everyone wants to see,” Harcott tells omg! Canada.

“And, to an extent, I think that’s true. People don’t watch NASCAR because they want to see amazing left turns; they want to see a crash. And I think this show or the franchise itself has a lot of that. Continue reading »
