CTV announced today complementary content that gives fans everything they need to participate in the race of a lifetime – including viewer prizing of up to $185,000. The customized activations and original content from BlackBerry, Air Canada, Chevrolet Canada, and Interac Association are available at beginning next Monday, July 15 to coincide with the series’ premiere that night.

JodyCoryDouble amputee Jody Mitic says competing in The Amazing Race Canada was his “biggest challenge” yet.

The 36-year-old former Canadian Forces sniper lost both his legs when he stepped on a landmine in Afghanistan but continues to challenge himself as much as possible, including competing in the gruelling new CTV series with his younger brother.

“We decided to just go for it,” says Mitic. “I approach most things like, ‘I’ll worry about it when it happens.’

“I surprised myself. There’s nobody more surprised by some of the things I pulled off than me,” said Mitic. “Some of what I thought were my limits, I can actually go a lot further.” Continue reading »

AmazingRaceCanadaJonThe first two teams for The Amazing Race Canada have been revealed.

British Columbia couple Kristen and Darren will join brothers Jody (Ottawa) and Cory (Edmonton) in the race as two of the nine teams to race across the country.

In total, nine teams will compete for the historic half a million dollar grand prize, with three more teams announced tomorrow (June 25), two on Wednesday (June 26), and the final two pairings on Thursday (June 27). CanadianIdolThis week marks a special anniversary for Canadian reality TV and in particular, Ben Mulroney.

It is ten years this week since Canadian Idol burst onto the screen and catapulted host Mulrony into the spotlight as much as the contestants – which let’s not forget included the now mega-popular Carly Rae Jepsen.

“It was not a foregone conclusion it was going to be successful,” recalls Mulroney. “If you look at the jaded, cynical members of the press … they were convinced this was not a Canadian thing to do. ‘We don’t do stuff like this…. We don’t celebrate the way that the Americans do.’

AmazingRaceCanadaJonJon Montgomery says there will sadly be no repeat of his beer-swilling antics when he takes control of The Amazing Race Canada this summer.

The Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympics gold medallist gained a whole new following after he accepted a pitcher of beer from a stranger on the streets of Whistler and started chugging.

“There will be no unfortunate beer product placement during The Amazing Race Canada,” Montgomery joked at the Bell Media Upfront presentation this week.

jonmontgomeryAs we suspected last month, Jon Montgomery has been named the host of The Amazing Race Canada.

CTV’s eTalk announced this evening that the 2010 Winter Olympic gold medallist will front the CTV series this summer.

Montgomery is perhaps best known for his night-time stroll through the streets following his gold medal win, chugging beer from a pitcher someone handed him.
