MuchMusic has acquired the exclusive broadcast rights to television’s hair-raising new drama TEEN WOLF, premiering in Spring 2011. The highly anticipated spin on the classic ‘80s film compliments Much’s youth-driven programming, tackling themes like high school life, love, and the desire to fit in.

“TEEN WOLF is our next smash MuchMusic series,” said Brad Schwartz, Senior Vice-President and General Manager, Much MTV Group, CTV Inc. “Not only do the themes presented in the series speak to our audience, but it’s a hot new thriller with an amazing cast that puts a modern spin on a cult classic.”

TEEN WOLF stars Tyler Posey (BROTHERS AND SISTERS), as the newly bitten werewolf Scott McCall. Also cast are Dylan O’Brien as his best friend ‘Stiles,’ Crystal Reed is the mysterious new girl in town, and Tyler Hoechlin (Road to Perdition) as the older and dangerous werewolf.

Always an outsider and often unnoticed, Scott yearns to be recognized in a way that takes him out of his typical state of high school anonymity. When his best friend convinces him to go into the woods one night to join a police search for a dead body, Scott encounters a creature in the darkness. Narrowly escaping an attack with a vicious bite in his side, the next day brings strange surprises for Scott at school, thus changing his life forever.

TEEN WOLF is a co-production with MTV and MGM. The pilot was directed by Russell Mulcahy (Resident Evil: Extinction) and written by Jeff Davis (creator of CRIMINAL MINDS). Executive Producers include Davis, Marty Adelstein (PRISON BREAK) and Michael Thorn of Lost Marbles TV, and René Echevarria (MEDIUM).

MTV are set to add another remake to the tally with news the network is planning to adapt an English show.

The American network has set its sights on teen comedy series The Inbetweeners with plans for an American version in the works.

The news comes after MTV recently announced they were remaking Teen Wolf and hit E4 series Skins for the US.

The Inbetweeners series will feature original creators Iain Morris and Damon Beesley as executive producers who had previously been attached to an unsuccessful attempt at an American remake of the show.

The original series, centring on a group of youths at a London high school, has been airing in the US on BBC America.

MTV has ordered a new series of Teen Wolf.

The reboot series will be based on the popular Michael J. Fox flick of the 1980s but will be given a major updating.

The series will feature a rookie cast of new faces including Tyler Posey as the titular character, Tyler Hoechlin, Crystal Reed and Dylan O’Brien.

The story will follow Posey’s character as he deals with his new-found supernatural powers after being attacked by a wolf. A departure is said to be made from Michael J. Fox’s basketball-heavy hero to a more Twilight/Vampire Diaries feel.

Teen Wolf will join the US remake of UK series Skins on the MTV line-up.
