ShaqFormer NBA basketballer Shaquille O’Neal will make an appearance in cop drama Southland this year.

O’Neal will play an officer called Earl Dayton on the show, who is an old friend of John Cooper (Michael Cudlitz).

The day takes a turn for the worse when officers John Cooper (Michael Cudlitz), Ben Sherman (Ben McKenzie), Chickie Brown (Arija Bareikis) and Dewey (guest star C. Thomas Howell, War of the Worlds) find a member of Marta’s Avenue gang dead in a trunk outside Dodger Stadium. Meanwhile, Detective Bryant (Shawn Hatosy) convinces Lydia (Regina King) to take in Janilla (guest star Carla Jeffrey, CURB YOUR ENTHUSIASM) in order to ensure her safety. Elsewhere, Detective Salinger (Michael McGrady) becomes increasingly frustrated with his growing rift with his teenage daughter.

Detective Sal Salinger’s (Michael McGrady) nightmare comes true when his car slams into a light pole and gang members steal his weapon. Gang Detectives Sammy Bryant (Shawn Hatosy) and Nate Moretta (Kevin Alejandro) arrive on the scene to help out their boss. Moretta reluctantly agrees to assist Bryant in the search for the perpetrators and Salinger’s weapon without calling it in. Elsewhere, Detective Lydia Adams (Regina King) is caught off guard when a man exposes himself to her outside her home.

When Officer Ben Sherman (Ben McKenzie) reveals details of his past to the department therapist and his training officer, John Cooper (Michael Cudlitz), the motivation behind his decision to be a cop becomes clear. Elsewhere, Dewey (guest star C. Thomas Howell, CRIMINAL MINDS) becomes star struck by Timmy (guest star Tom Sizemore, Saving Private Ryan), a famous, self obsessed actor. Trouble ensues when Dewey loses track of Timmy, and Chickie (Arija Bareikis) finds herself questioning her decision to take him on as her partner.

John Wells’ (ER, THE WEST WING) new cop drama SOUTHLAND was all business Thursday night at 10 p.m. when 1.34 million viewers tuned in to the series premiere on CTV, winning the timeslot and ranking the series #3 for the night. The highly-anticipated addition to television’s biggest night bested the series premiere of HARPER’S ISLAND on Global by 50% (893,000). Growing in its second half-hour, SOUTHLAND also won all key selling demos at 10 p.m. (A18-34, +44%; A18-49, +47% and A25-54, +45%) and was the top performer with A25-54 in Toronto & Vancouver. The largest new drama series debut this year since FRINGE, SOUTHLAND was the third most-watched program of the night, following CSI on CTV (2.27 million) and SURVIVIOR on Global (1.57 million).

SOUTHLAND is a raw, gritty, and authentic look at a police unit in downtown Los Angeles.

In the second episode, “Mozambique” (Thursday, April 16 at 10 p.m. ET on CTV), officers John Cooper (Michael Cudlitz), Ben Sherman (Benjamin McKenzie), and Chickie Brown (Arija Bareikis) rescue a baby girl found crawling across the middle of an L.A. intersection and begin the hunt for her mother. Detectives Lydia Adams (Regina King) and Russell Clarke (Tom Everett Scott) examine the scene looking for clues, and soon Lydia finds herself affected by the search – taking a personal interest in reuniting the baby with its mother.

Meanwhile, officers Sammy Bryant (Shawn Hatosy) and Nate Moretta (Kevin Alejandro) are unable to find the financial resources to put a juvenile key witness in police protection after an attempt on her life and must now convince the DA to place her in a student police program.  And back at the station, everyone gathers for a retirement party for Dewey (guest star C. Thomas Howell).

SOUTHLAND also airs Wednesday nights at 10 p.m. ET on Bravo!

Thursday, April 9 10 p.m.

From Emmy® Award-winning executive producer John Wells (ER, THE WEST WING) comes a raw, gritty and authentic look at a Los Angeles police unit. SOUTHLAND joins the Thursday night lineup, replacing ER in the 10 p.m. timeslot. In the premiere episode, it’s rookie cop Ben Sherman’s (Benjamin McKenzie, THE O.C.) first day on the beat, and he finds himself questioning if he’s cut out for the job. Adding to the pressure, Sherman is assigned to no-nonsense training officer, veteran John Cooper (Michael Cudlitz, Band of Brothers). Meanwhile, a young girl is kidnapped from her front yard and Detectives Lydia Adams (Regina King, Jerry McGuire) and Russell Clarke (Tom Everett Scott, That Thing You Do!) investigate the disappearance while comforting her distraught parents.
