The SAG Awards honours outstanding performances in television and film. This year, veteran writer, director, producer and actor Carl Reiner, along with seven-time SAG Award winner Alec Baldwin, will present the SAG Life Achievement Award to Dick Van Dyke.

The Screen Actors Guild Awards recognizes performances in television and film. Presenters and first time nominees include Octavia Spencer (The Help), Kyle Chandler (Friday Night Lights) and Maya Rudolph (Bridesmaids). Dick Van Dyke will present Mary Tyler Moore with the Actors Guild’s 48th Annual Life Achievement Award.

E! launches its 2012 award season coverage this Sunday with the THE 2012 GOLDEN GLOBE AWARDS, including COUNTDOWN TO THE RED CARPET: THE 2012 GOLDEN GLOBE AWARDS at 5 p.m. ET, followed by E!’s flagship red carpet show LIVE FROM THE RED CARPET: THE 2012 GOLDEN GLOBE AWARDS at 6 p.m. ET. Later that night E! schmoozes with the biggest stars and digs up all the post-show dirt with E! AFTER PARTY: THE 2012 GOLDEN GLOBE AWARDS at 11 p.m. ET.

Then, after GOLDEN GLOBE host Ricky Gervais dole’s out the night’s awards, E! announced today that its very own Leah Miller will greet the golden winners backstage in the only Canadian exclusive backstage lounge for Canada’s most-watched entertainment show ETALK. There to capture the shining stars just moments after their big win, E!’s Miller will give Canadian viewers the up-close reaction of their favourite Hollywood heroes. Global’s exclusive broadcast of the 2011 Screen Actors Guild (SAG) Awards deserves an award of its own.  

Not only did it put a lock on the country (Ind 2+) but it experienced meteoric growth since the first Global broadcast in 2010, indicating the continuing rise in importance of the SAG Awards.

 

Highlights include:

· Year to year nationally, 54% increase (Ind 2+) and a 95% increase in the key A18-49 demo

· Global owned Sunday night prime time (8pm-11pm, Ind 2+), beating CTV by 38% and Citytv by 70%

· Global’s broadcast of the SAG Awards also won the night in the key markets of Toronto and Vancouver (A18-49)

· Year to year, Toronto was up 67% (A18-49) and Vancouver was up 20% (A18-49)

 

A little more than halfway through awards season, Global anticipates another strong showing when it broadcasts The GRAMMY Awards on Sunday, February 13, which will be preceded by ET Canada’s Red Carpet Special.
