packagedealThe cast of new City sitcom Package Deal have bonded over the unlikeliest of sports: badminton.

The three male leads – Harland Williams, Randal Edwards and Jay Malone – were brought closer together through their newly-discovered love of the sport.

“I grew up playing badminton,” Williams told TV Guide Canada. “I’ve played it my whole life. On my way to work I pass a badminton club. One day I stopped in there and they have all these great courts. I asked those guys if they wanted to play, and we do that two or three times a week. It’s heaven. PackageDealRandalEdwardRandal Edwards believes his new City sitcom Package Deal is “as close to live theatre as TV gets”.

The Calgary native is one of the stars of the new Vancouver-set comedy series, which centres on a successful young lawyer and his uncommonly-close relationship with his two brothers (Harland Williams and Jay Malone).

The series breaks from the usual single camera set-up in favour of multiple cameras and a live studio audience.

“It’s as close to live theatre as TV gets. It’s a meeting of both worlds. It’s unlike any other TV job I’ve had. It’s a unique animal,” Edwards tells the Calgary Herald. “Seeing it done with a live audience, I couldn’t see doing it any other way because you get so much from the audience itself, with instant feedback. Pamela Anderson has locked down a guest role on Canadian sitcom Package Deal.

The former Baywatch actress will guest star in three episodes of the Citytv series, which shoots in Vancouver before a live audience.

The 45-year-old BC native will play an “off-beat therapist with an up-close-and-personal manner”.

Building upon its already talent-laden cast, Citytv and Thunderbird Films today announced that esteemed Canadian actor Eugene Levy (American Pie, A Mighty Wind) will guest star in the highly anticipated Citytv original comedy series, Package Deal.

The award-winning Second City Television (SCTV) alumnus will appear in three episodes as a repeatedly-married man whose wives keep mysteriously dying, providing a challenge for his lawyer Danny (Randal Edwards, Degrassi: The Next Generation, The Killing).

Citytv and Thunderbird Films announced today primary casting for the all-new, original, multi-camera comedy series, Package Deal.

Celebrated comedians Harland Williams (There’s Something About Mary, The Whole Nine Yards, Dumb & Dumber, Half Baked) and Jay Malone (Dollhouse, Monk) join Randal Edwards (Degrassi:The Next Generation, The Killing) and Julia Voth (Bitch Slap) as the stars of the new series.

From critically-acclaimed creator Andrew Orenstein (Malcolm in the Middle, 3rd Rock from the Sun), the 13-episode, half-hour, multi-camera comedy series produced by Thunderbird Films is slated to start filming this fall in front of a live studio audience. In its continuing support of Canadian productions, Citytv announced today it has greenlit two new original comedy series – Package Deal and Seed.

Commissioned by Citytv’s original content team and produced by Thunderbird Films and Force Four Entertainment, respectively, the two series are slated to launch exclusively on Citytv in mid-season.
