Orphan Black

Orphan-Black4The Hollywood Reporter has this week labelled Orphan Black’s Tatiana Maslany their Emmy dark horse.

The Canadian actress, who plays five different characters in the sci-fi series, is being touted as an outside chance to score herself an Emmy award this summer.

Maslany told the magazine that she is playing down her chances of winning an Emmy nomination.

“It feels like it has come out of nowhere.” Maslany said. “I take it with a grain of salt; it’s really wonderful, but I can’t put my work’s worth on whether I get an Emmy nomination.” Continue reading »

Orphan-Black4The co-creator of Orphan Black has described the casting of Tatiana Maslany as basically “casting five roles at the same time”.

John Fawcett – who along with Graeme Manson created the hit series – says the show’s success hinged on their ability to find the right actress for the role.

“We knew we had a show that really hinged on the abilities of our lead actor,” Fawcett told ET. “She is essentially all the female leads, so we knew how important the casting of that role was — we’d either knock it out of the park or we’d go down with the ship. Continue reading »

OrphanBlack3Tatiana Maslany says it was “insane” to be honoured over the likes of Claire Danes at the Critics’ Choice Awards this week.

It was a big week for the Orphan Black actress who claimed the Best Actress in a Drama Series award at the ceremony and received a nomination for the Television Critics’ Association Awards on the same day.

“It was insane and totally overwhelming and totally not expected,” Maslany told TV Guide Canada. “Just being in the room with those actors and with so many of my heroes, it’s crazy, it’s totally crazy.”

Maslany believes the show combines both sci-fi and the real world well. Continue reading »

Why not?

OrphanBlack4It may be one of the most deserved awards of the season.

Orphan Black’s Tatiana Maslany was awarded for her epic effort on Orphan Black this week at the Critics’ Choice Television Awards, picking up the best dramatic actress gong.

It was no mean feat for the Regina-born actress either, she was up against Claire Danes (Homeland), Vera Farmiga (Bates Motel) and Elisabeth Moss (Mad Men).

“I’m still kind of in denial that it even happened, it’s all pretty surreal,” Maslany said afterwards. Continue reading »

OrphanBlack4Orphan Black’s Tatiana Maslany says she was excited about how bold Saturday night’s season finale was.

The talented Canadian actress told ET that when she first read the script for the season one finale, she cried.

“Well, I was sad. We didn’t know if we were coming back, so I think I cried at the end of our read-through because there was a chance I would never play these characters again,” Maslany said.

“But, I was excited that they went so bold with it. I feel like the piece stands on its own. I don’t think it feels like a finale. It has enough of that cliffhanger thing, but you don’t feel alienated. It’s not all bells and whistles and no heart.” Continue reading »

OrphanBlack3Orphan Black has received a lot of love from south of the border since its premiere and The Hollywood Reporter is continuing the “hype train”.

Reporter Tim Goodman has stated in his Power Rankings piece today that he believes Canadian actress Tatiana Maslany is worthy of an Emmy nomination for her multiple roles in the series.

“Instead of just going on about how surprisingly good this series is and what a sad thing that so many of you are missing it, maybe I should let the Hype Train just keep rolling with its own momentum and get to something more important,” he writes.

“If Tatiana Maslany isn’t nominated for an Emmy for her multiple performances here, then you’ve got your biggest and most justified Emmy outrage of 2013.” Continue reading »
