One X One Gala

New Broadcast Date for One X One Gala Hosted by Matt Damon, January 26 on CTV

The One X One Gala, hosted by Academy Award-winner Matt Damon and featuring incredible music and A-list stars, will now premiere on Saturday, Jan. 26 at 8 p.m. ET, exclusively on CTV (visit CTV.ca to confirm local broadcast times).

Held in Toronto during the Toronto International Film Festival this past September, the One X One Gala features the musical direction of Grammy Award-winner and Golden Globe-nominee Wyclef Jean as well as performances by chart-topper Shakira, One X One Ambassador and Montreal singing prodigy Nikki Yanofsky, the African Children’s Choir, and many others. These musical performances are among the highlights that also include One X One honourees Richard Gere, The Duchess of York Sarah Ferguson, Assembly of First Nations National Chief Phil Fontaine and supermodel and philanthropist Petra Nemcova who received the 2007 Difference Award.

Additional honourees at the gala event included ultra-endurance athletes Charlie Engle, Ray Zahab and Kevin Lin from the documentary, Running the Sahara. They became the first modern runners to cross the Sahara Desert and raise awareness for H2O Africa, a clean water initiative founded by Matt Damon and his partners at LivePlanet that highlights the water crisis in Africa and gathers support for clean water programs in critical areas.

This year’s One X One Gala – the One X One Foundation’s third annual event – raised $3.5 million for children living in poverty around the world, bringing the total amount raised since its inception in 2005 to $7 million.

In September, One X One honoured Golden Globe Award-winner Richard Gere, The Duchess of York Sarah Ferguson, Assembly of First Nations National Chief Phil Fontaine and supermodel and philanthropist Petra Nemcova with the 2007 Difference Award. These awards, presented annually to recognize individuals who have dedicated their lives to fighting child poverty and suffering in Canada and around the world, are among the many highlights of the One X One Gala broadcast. Also part of the television event is the foundation’s honour of Wyclef Jean with a special One X One humanitarian award for his commitment to providing aid, resources and inspiration in his native country through the Yéle Haiti movement.

Additional honourees at the gala event included ultra-endurance athletes Charlie Engle, Ray Zahab and Kevin Lin from the documentary, Running the Sahara.
