The broadcaster is already hyping it cross-platform coverage, saying it will be delivering the top news stories in the year leading up to the Sochi games.

The London 2012 Olympics has signalled a shift in the way people are watching live sporting events.

While TV is still proving popular, many viewers have turned to mobile and desktop devices to watch live streams for archived footage in order to get their Olympic fix.

The London 2012 Olympic Games has proven to be massive hit on Canadian TV despite our team only bringing home one gold medal.

The broadcast consortium is boasting an 88 per cent increase in viewership (based on hours tuned) over Beijing four years ago.

31.9 million Canadians caught at least some part of an Olympic broadcast throughout the two weeks of competition.

7.5m tuned in to the Closing Ceremony last weekend, a figure more than three times higher than that of the Athens 2004 ceremony on CTV. Continue reading »

Usain Bolt’s 100m final win has proved the most popular event at the London 2012 Olympics for Canadian TV viewers.

The Canadian broadcast consortium reports that Sunday evening’s run was watched by 6.2m viewers in Canada, which is roughly the same size audience that tunes into the likes of the Oscars and the Super Bowl.

The audience as also in line with the biggest non-hockey audiences of the Vancouver 2010 Winter games. Continue reading »

The London 2012 Olympic Games is proving a hit with Canadians on mobile devices with 61 per cent of the traffic on Canada’s Olympic Broadcast Media Consortium digital platforms coming from such devices.

The Consortium’s digital platforms, which include CTVOlympics.ca and RDSolympues.ca, have notched up nearly 90 million page views so far, which is up 10 per cent from the same time during Vancouver 2010.

The amount of traffic coming from mobile devices is over five times the average. Continue reading »
