Michael J Fox’s return to fulltime TV acting has been confirmed with the actor to feature in a sitcom inspired by his own life.

The Canadian American actor will feature in the comedy project for NBC that focusses on a father of three dealing with Parkinson ’s disease.

The yet-to-be-titled sitcom has been given a 22-episode order by the network and will mark Fox’s first long-term commitment to a project since leaving Spin City in 2000. Continue reading »

A new TV series adapted from classic Canadian novel Anne of Green Gables has been announced.

Kate Macdonald Butler, the granddaughter of author Lucy Maud Montgomery who penned the 1908 kids novel, announced the news this week.

The new 13-part series is set for production in summer 2013 in the Canadian Maritimes, with help from Canadian indie producer Breakthrough Entertainment.

The series will be a contemporary take on the classic story about a red-haired orphan who finds a home on Prince Edward Island. Continue reading »

Bringing a ‘brand’ new edge to late-night, FX Canada today announced the much-buzzed about unscripted talk series hosted by actor and comedian Russell Brand (Get Him to the Greek) will premiere on the channel this spring. The program will be the first unscripted talk series to launch on FX Canada.

During each of the six, half-hour installments, Brand will interact with a live studio audience and share his unvarnished take on topics ranging from politics to pop culture. Additional broadcast and series details to be announced at a later date.

Brand began his career as a stand-up comedian rising to fame in the U.K. with his first nationwide tour, Shame, in 2006. He then brought his comedy act to the United States in 2009 during his first worldwide tour. On the big screen, Brand is best known for his role as rocker Aldous Snow in the Judd Apatow-produced Forgetting Sarah Marshall and Get Him to the Greek. Brand can soon be seen in the upcoming musical, Rock of Ages. His other film credits include the Disney hit, Bedtime Stories; Warner Bros.’ Arthur – which marked Brand’s first role as a producer; and The Tempest. He has also lent his voice to animated films such as Hop and Despicable Me. An acclaimed author, Brand has written two books: My Booky Wook: A Memoir of Sex, Drugs and Stand-Up, which was on The New York Times best-seller list for five consecutive weeks, and the follow up, Booky Wook 2: This Time It’s Personal.

Director Kevin Smith is set to take a dip in the reality TV pool with news he is developing a new reality series for American network AMC.

The Clerks director will produce a series that will be set inside his New Jersey comic book store.

A casting call was sent out that sought “real people who live and breathe the comic book lifestyle”.

Smith confirmed that he would be working with AMC in reply to a fan’s tweet this week. 

“A really cool one,” he said of AMC. “That makes awesome shows. That I watch. F**k it: it’s @AMC_TV (sic).”

Zach Galifianakis has joined HBO on a deal that will see him produce a comedy series for the network.

The Hangover actor has agreed to a first-look deal with the cable network where he will work alongside friend and collaborator Brody Stevens.

The pair will develop a mockumentary series centring on Stevens playing himself. Galifianakis will guest star in the series should it be picked up.
