My Name is Earl

NBC has won a lawsuit against a writer who claimed he had come up with the concept for the comedy My Name Is Earl.

Mark Gable had sued the network over the series, which he claims they ripped off a concept he shopped around the networks back in 1995.

Gable’s case detailed similarities in his script, entitled Karma, and My Name Is Earl which both feature a main character who tries to correct his wrongdoings after becoming cursed by a lottery win.

A Los Angeles court has ruled that the two shows were not “substantially similar”.
