MuchMusic VJs Sarah Taylor and Jesse Giddings are singing their hearts out (literally) in support of the Stephen Lewis Foundation and World AIDS Day. On Wednesday, Nov. 25 from 12:30 – 1:30 p.m. Sarah and Jesse go where no VJ has gone before…busking on the street as their own personal “Dare to Remember” to help raise money for AIDS-affected communities through the Stephen Lewis Foundation. The public is encouraged to come and watch Sarah and Jesse belt out their favourite songs at Yonge Dundas Square in Toronto.

If you can’t make it down or want to know more about World AIDS Day, Much fans can tune into a special edition of MuchMusic’s Video Flow on World AIDS Day, Tuesday, Dec. 1 at 12 p.m. ET.

Beginning on August 31, 2009, the Stephen Lewis Foundation challenged all Canadians to do something extraordinary to help turn the tide of AIDS in Africa. People across the country are being asked to choose any kind of “dare” (funny, healthy, sporty), set a personal fundraising goal and encourage friends, family and colleagues to sponsor them. Proceeds from A Dare to Remember are used by the Stephen Lewis Foundation to support community-based organizations in 15

sub-Saharan African countries with AIDS initiatives including counseling, education, health care, and more. Visit to learn more.

MuchMusic gets a dose of B.C. cool as west coaster Jesse Giddings joins the ranks as MuchMusic’s newest VJ. The long time musician, avid concert goer and social media guru is set to engage and interact with the MuchMusic audience across Canada as the fans’ frontline to all things music and pop culture.

“Jesse was born to do this job,” said Sheila Sullivan, Director of Programming, Much MTV Group, CTV Inc. “We’re thrilled to add Jesse to the MuchMusic team. He’s a musician, a die-hard music fan and hugely engaging. We’re looking forward to watching Jesse interact and connect with our fans on MuchMusic, and on the street.”

MuchMusic will add a second new VJ to the roster with the winner of Doritos® presents MuchMusic VJ 2.0. Nearly 4000 VJ hopefuls applied online at, with only 16 lucky wannabes shortlisted. MuchMusic narrowed down the search to eight semi-finalists, all vying to secure a spot in the Final Four, to be announced Nov. 23. As of early December, Giddings’ short tenure as new guy will come to an end when the winner of VJ 2.0 joins the MuchMusic team.

In December 2008, Giddings threw caution to the wind and moved to Toronto to pursue his goals, with one in particular always on his mind – working for MuchMusic. The charismatic musician slash model slash jack of all trades first caught the eye of MuchMusic producers at an open casting call earlier this year. Producers were impressed with his knowledge of music, ability to connect with the audience, and interest in youth and youth issues.

“Music is such a big part of my life and working for MuchMusic is a dream come true,” said Giddings. “I’m excited to meet and get involved with MuchMusic fans, and support Canadian musicians along the way. Becoming a VJ is such an unbelievable opportunity and I’m thrilled to be a part of the team.”

Giddings is no stranger to the music scene. After learning to play the bass guitar from his dad over the phone, Giddings went on to rock the axe with indie bands Swingset Champion and We Shot the Moon. When he’s not checking out the latest indie band to hit the Canadian music scene, Giddings can be found on his computer tweeting and Facebooking with MuchMusic fans.

Let the challenges begin! From nearly 4000 applicants, fans and MuchMusic narrowed the search to eight VJ candidates, all battling for the job of a lifetime. Now these eight semi-finalists go head-to-head in a series of jaw-biting, take-no-prisoners challenges to secure a spot in the Final Four. Fans can go to to watch the action unfold and interact with VJ hopefuls as they duke it out for the best gig in media.

“Fans’ support for the VJ candidates has been incredible. They’ve interacted, engaged and supported our search for the next MuchMusic VJ,” said Brad Schwartz, Senior Vice President and General Manager, Much MTV Group, CTV Inc. “With their help, we now have eight talented semi-finalists ready to compete at to secure a spot in the Final Four. From here on out, it’s no holds barred as we get closer to finding another amazing MuchMusic VJ.”

The competition begins with semi-finalists giving back and getting socially active by raising money for a charity or cause of their choice. Then it’s all about music and celebrity culture as the VJ hopefuls tackle the top entertainment and news stories of the day, along with interviewing a local musician. The challenge really gets crackin’ when the candidates turn the camera on and show fans just how well they can throw to their favourite music videos. The stakes are high, as only four go on in the competition. Fans can hit up to checkout the challenges and support their favorite VJ wannabes. Doritos® presents the MuchMusic VJ 2.0 Final Four on Nov. 23.

The eight semi-finalists were narrowed down from the Top 16 based on fan views, ratings and feedback, along with the applicants’ photos, video submissions, social links, and written submission. The Top 8 can be viewed and supported online at
