The CRTC (Canadian Radio & Television Commission) has denied Muchmusic’s application to decrease the amount of Music Videos it has to play. CTVglobemedia asked the commission to lower the amount of video broadcast from 50% to 25% citing the availablity of these videos on other platforms make the business not as viable as it use to be. They claim the model has changed drastically since the channel launched in 1984.

They wanted to move the channel into more “lifestyle” programming taking a page from it’s sister network MTV. It’s also worth nothing that MTV (MUSIC Television) cannot technically play any music/videos because their licence is currently based on the Talk TV format.

But Senior Vice President of MuchMTV, Brad Schwartz, still expects the change to happen at some point.

That being said the commision did approve Muchmusic’s request to play more films which will continue to air as the “MuchMovie”

Do we care that MuchMusic/MTV don’t play as much music videos anymore considering the availability of them online? Let us know.

MuchMusic and Rogers join forces to deliver fans a front row seat to one of the hottest stars in the world with ROGERS PRESENTS: MUCHMUSIC’S LIVE IN NYC WITH DRAKE.

The 90-minute concert special, shot during one of Drake’s recent sold out performances at Radio City Music Hall, premieres Wednesday, November 24 at 10 p.m. ET exclusively in Canada on MuchMusic.

Showing their love for Canada’s biggest export, MuchMusic and Rogers sent 50 of Drake’s biggest fans to NYC for a sold out show on his Light Dreams and Nightmares Tour. The lucky 50 also met the superstar backstage.

Drake performs songs from his latest album Thank Me Later with special guests Birdman, J. Cole, Mack Maine, Trey Songz, Tyga, and more.

Following the Much premiere, the special is also available on demand at muchmusic.com and on Rogers On Demand. Rogers Wireless customers also have exclusive access to hundreds of shows nationwide with no service charges through the Wireless Box Office. Visit urMusic.ca/tickets for details.

The Toronto-born actor and recording artist has become the fastest rising newcomer in hip-hop, scoring two Grammy® nods before the release of his debut album. Despite not being signed to a label, his first single “Best I Ever Had” reached #1 on Billboard Rap Charts and #2 on Billboard Hot 100.

After an intense bidding war, Drake signed with Aspire/Cash Money/Young Money, and released his highly anticipated debut album Thank Me Later in June. This year Drake took home his first two JUNO Awards and won two MuchMusic Video Awards. Drake headlined his first major solo tour this year, which sold out venues across U.S., Europe, and Canada.

MuchMusic has acquired the exclusive broadcast rights to television’s hair-raising new drama TEEN WOLF, premiering in Spring 2011. The highly anticipated spin on the classic ‘80s film compliments Much’s youth-driven programming, tackling themes like high school life, love, and the desire to fit in.

“TEEN WOLF is our next smash MuchMusic series,” said Brad Schwartz, Senior Vice-President and General Manager, Much MTV Group, CTV Inc. “Not only do the themes presented in the series speak to our audience, but it’s a hot new thriller with an amazing cast that puts a modern spin on a cult classic.”

TEEN WOLF stars Tyler Posey (BROTHERS AND SISTERS), as the newly bitten werewolf Scott McCall. Also cast are Dylan O’Brien as his best friend ‘Stiles,’ Crystal Reed is the mysterious new girl in town, and Tyler Hoechlin (Road to Perdition) as the older and dangerous werewolf.

Always an outsider and often unnoticed, Scott yearns to be recognized in a way that takes him out of his typical state of high school anonymity. When his best friend convinces him to go into the woods one night to join a police search for a dead body, Scott encounters a creature in the darkness. Narrowly escaping an attack with a vicious bite in his side, the next day brings strange surprises for Scott at school, thus changing his life forever.

TEEN WOLF is a co-production with MTV and MGM. The pilot was directed by Russell Mulcahy (Resident Evil: Extinction) and written by Jeff Davis (creator of CRIMINAL MINDS). Executive Producers include Davis, Marty Adelstein (PRISON BREAK) and Michael Thorn of Lost Marbles TV, and René Echevarria (MEDIUM).

Get ready to fiesta as the 2010 MTV EUROPE MUSIC AWARDS air live from Madrid on Sunday, Nov. 7 at 3 p.m. ET exclusively on MuchMore.

MuchMusic brings fans up close and personal with multi-platinum recording artist Taylor Swift for a live interview on Thursday, Nov. 4 at 5 p.m. ET.

In the live one-hour show TAYLOR SWIFT, she talks with 10 fans and MuchMusic VJ Sarah Taylor about her new album Speak Now, her impressive four GRAMMY Awards®, and her life as a musician and moving out on her own. But that’s not all.

Fans who want to be part of the action can come down to the corner of Queen and John Streets in Toronto as the pop media darling greets the fans outside of MuchMusic’s street level studio.

Taylor’s Speak Now album was released just this week, and is earning substantial critical acclaim. Rolling Stone gave the disc an impressive 4 Stars, writing: “People like to fixate on Taylor Swift’s youth, as if to say, yeah, she’s pretty good for her age. But that just begs a question: Where are all the older people who are supposedly making better pop records than Taylor Swift? There aren’t any.”

The 20-year old singer-songwriter has sold more than 13 million records and is guaranteed to  build upon that success  with the anticipated success of her third album Speak Now, in stores now. Her hit song “Mine” debuted at #1 on the Billboard Hot Digital Songs Chart and at #3 on the Billboard Hot 100 upon release. “Mine” currently sits at #3 on the MUCHMUSIC COUNTDOWN.

MuchMusic VJ Sarah Taylor teams up with Plan Canada in support of Pakistani flood relief efforts. Accompanied by CP24’s Matte Babel, the duo hosts Mohabbat: A Benefit for Pakistan on Thursday, October 14 at 8 p.m. ET at Toronto’s This Is London (364 Richmond St. W.). All proceeds go to Plan Canada’s Pakistan Relief Program, in support of more than 20 million victims of Pakistan’s worst flood in recent history.

The event, organized by Taylor, Caroline Shaheed of OfTheNow.ca, and Jonathan Ramos of Union Events, features exclusive performances by MTV’s resident DJ Johnny Hockin, Maseo of de la Soul, and Mayer Hawthorne, among other special guests. The evening also features a silent auction with more than 50 items up for bid including Toronto Raptors autographed shoes and tickets, concert tickets, jewelry, artwork and much more. A minimum donation of $20 is appreciated at the door.

“It’s easy to forget how lucky we are living in Canada, and I felt a responsibility to take action,” said MuchMusic VJ Sarah Taylor. “I hope my partnership inspires others to make a difference for those who need it.”

For more event information on Mohabbat: A Benefit for Pakistan please go to: unionevents.com or thisislondonclub.com. To make a donation, please click here.
