It all comes down to this. MuchMusic and Coca-Cola Canada announced this week the top three finalists in the final round of the MMVAs Covers Award competition.

These three contenders have earned VIP trips to the 2011 MUCHMUSIC VIDEO AWARDS on June 19: Danyka Nadeau, Justin Dubé, and Levar Allen. One singer will win the ultimate prize – the MMVAs Covers Award!

Beginning in February, Covers asked Much viewers to record their own rendition of popular songs and post them online. After over a thousand submissions and rounds of judging based on fan views, ratings, and an extensive panel, the top three were chosen.

Danyka Nadeau (20) – Edmunston, NB

The youngest of all three finalists, Danyka Nadeau has had a passion for music and the arts since the age of seven. Currently enrolled in a University music program, Danyka brings her musical knowledge and killer pipes to the competition.

Justin Dubé (27) – Toronto, ON

Justin Dubé picked-up the guitar at the age of 10, and hasn’t put it down since. His skills on both guitar and piano paired with his soulful voice have led him to a spot in the top three.

Levar Allen (22) – Toronto, ON

Toronto’s own Levar Allen’s unique video submissions and incredible guitar skills are notable. His love of music and ability to remix just about anything made him a stand out in the Covers competition.

The stars came out today for the pre-party before THE party, as MuchMusic announced the nominees for the 2011 MUCHMUSIC VIDEO AWARDS, live on NEW.MUSIC.LIVE.

Audience members joined the NEW.MUSIC.LIVE. team and special guests Down With Webster, Alyssa Reid, and Belly to announce that pop-rock princess Fefe Dobson and R&B star Shawn Desman, along with Down With Webster lead the charge with four nominations each.

Co-host Selena Gomez grabs two nominations and first time nominees include Neverest, JRDN, P. Reign, Shad, and Candy Coated Killahz.

The most anticipated (and loudest) live street party of the year airs Sunday, June 19 at 9 p.m. ET on MuchMusic in Canada and Fuse in the U.S. The MMVAs RED CARPET SPECIAL gets it all started at 8 p.m. ET.

Media Note: A complete list of MMVAs nominees is available in the attached PDF document and at muchmusic.com. For artist photography, go to bellmediapr.ca/muchmusic.

Fans can get involved behind the scenes by helping pick the winner in each UR FAVE category – UR FAVE Video, UR FAVE International Artist, and UR FAVE Artist.  Fans can vote by “liking” their faves at mmva.muchmusic.com.

MMVA wristbands will be given away on Friday, June 10 during NEW.MUSIC.LIVE. Stay tuned to Much, muchmusic.com, and follow @muchmusic for more details.

The coolest girl in music, movies, and television is heading to the MMVAs. MuchMusic announced today that singer/songwriter/actress Selena Gomez is confirmed to co-host and perform at the hottest awards show of the year – the 2011 MUCHMUSIC VIDEO AWARDS, airing Sunday, June 19 at 9 p.m. ET on MuchMusic and Fuse in the U.S.

This young beauty has more than 18 million Likes on her Facebook fan page and nearly five million Twitter followers. Earlier this year, she took home Favorite TV Actress at the KIDS CHOICE AWARDS and her band, Selena Gomez & the Scene, won Favorite Breakout Artist at the PEOPLE’S CHOICE AWARDS, beating heavyweights Justin Bieber and Ke$ha (no big deal).

Paper Magazine also gave her the stamp of approval alongside the likes of Adele and Josh Hutcherson on their super exclusive Beautiful People 2011 List. With her band’s third studio album due out June 28, her latest film, Monte Carlo in theatres July 1, and her We Own The Night summer tour, Gomez kicks off her busy summer up close and personal with a few thousand of her closest friends during the biggest street party in the world. This marks Gomez’s first trip to MuchMusic HQ and the MMVAs.

“I am thrilled and honoured to host the MuchMusic Video Awards,” said Selena Gomez. “I look forward to seeing all my Canadian fans and kicking off the summer together.”

“Selena Gomez is a bona fide star,” said Sheila Sullivan, Executive Producer, 2011 MUCHMUSIC VIDEO AWARDS. “Her films and TV show are seen around the world and her songs are topping the charts. Now she brings her signature smile to the MMVAs stage where her fans are guaranteed to welcome her to the most exciting and loudest award show on earth…don’t worry Selena, we supply earplugs.”

At a mere 18, Gomez is definitely atop the A-List in Hollywood and she is quite possibly the only person who can hold the spotlight alongside famous friends Taylor Swift and Nick Jonas. Busy doesn’t even describe her schedule.  She is in her fifth season starring in the super popular series WIZARDS OF WAVERLY PLACE, and next appears in the Fox feature film Monte Carlo, alongside Leighton Meester and Katie Cassidy opening July 1st.

Later this year, her band embarks on their We Own The Night Tour. Gomez also has a big heart and lends her support to a variety of social and charitable organizations such as the UR Votes Count campaign and UNICEF’s Celebrity Tap Project.

Gomez joins previously announced performer Lady Gaga. More announcements to be released in the coming weeks.

Past MMVAs performers and presenters include: Adam Lambert, Drake, Ke$ha, Justin Bieber, Katy Perry, Down With Webster, The Black Eyed Peas, Nickelback, Rihanna, Jonas Brothers, Hedley, Kellan Lutz, Kelly Clarkson, Miley Cyrus, Nina Dobrev, Paris Hilton, Pauly D, Snooki, Britney Spears, Avril Lavigne, Kanye West, Taylor Lautner, Brody Jenner, Ashley Greene and many more.

Follow the countdown to the MMVAs on muchmusic.com or on Twitter @MuchMusic to get the latest announcements on performers, presenters, celebrity guests, the chance to win big prizes, and how to vote in the all-important UR FAVE categories. Fans can also stay tuned for the full list of nominees, which is slated to be announced in May.

They came. They sang. They covered. And they’re not done! After six weeks and more than 1,200 submissions, the 10 semi-finalists for the MMVAs Covers Award competition sponsored by MuchMusic and Coca-Cola® are ready for the next step!

Starting this week, the Top 10 semi-finalists are featured in a 60-second, co-branded commercial, airing both on-air and online, produced by the CTV Creative Agency.

In March, Much viewers were asked to record their own rendition of popular songs and post them online. The list of hopefuls is down to the Top 10, based on fan views, ratings, and an extensive judging panel. The semi-finalists include, among others,

a rock ‘n’ roll version of Ke$ha’s We R Who We R, an a capella performance of Taio Cruz’s Break Your Heart, and an acoustic version of Gimme Sympathy by Metric. Each of these crooners must now up the ante by submitting a brand new list of songs on covers.muchmusic.com by May 15. New song choices include Avril Lavigne’s What the Hell and Airplanes by B.o.B. Covers lovers can view new videos starting today and can have their say by rating all their faves.

The 10 hopefuls duke it out for their chance to make it to the coveted Final 3 spot, and a shot at winning a VIP trip to the 2011 MUCHMUSIC VIDEO AWARDS on June 19 in Toronto. There, the first ever recipient of the Covers Award is crowned. The 10 semi-finalists were chosen based on fan views, ratings, and an extensive judging panel.

As if flaming bras weren’t enough, Lady Gaga returns to give fans much more than they bargained for at the biggest awards show on the planet – the 2011 MUCHMUSIC VIDEO AWARDS!

Two years after her exploding, show-stopping performance, the hottest entertainer in the world craves a return to the MMVAs stage to show her fans why she was Born This Way. She’s covered herself in raw meat, Kermit the Frog toys, and arrived on a red carpet in an egg – what will she do at the MMVAs?

Fans can now mark their calendars, as MuchMusic confirmed today the show airs live from the MuchMusic HQ in Toronto on Sunday, June 19 at 9 p.m. ET. Gaga, whose third studio album, Born This Way, hits stores on May 23, is the first performer confirmed for the party that has fans taking to the streets and lining up overnight for the chance to get arms-length away from the hottest A-Listers in the world. For the second year in a row, the MMVAs are simulcast live in the U.S. on Fuse, Madison Square Garden’s national music television network.

Last year, millions of fans watched as co-host Miley Cyrus ripped up the stage at the legendary corner of Queen and John; Katy Perry made a sweet arrival on the Red Carpet in an ice cream truck; Toronto’s own Drake lit up the stage in front of a hometown crowd; and thousands upon thousands of girls screamed for Justin Bieber’s MMVAs debut.  When the final note was sung, the 2010 MMVAs had a cumulative average audience of 2.1 million viewers in the first 24 hours, and ultimately an incredible Reach of 6.2 million viewers within the first seven days.*

“Canada’s MMVAs have always been known for being the loudest live street party of the year,” said Sheila Sullivan, Executive Producer, 2011 MUCHMUSIC VIDEO AWARDS. “What better way to kick off this year’s show than by announcing that THE world’s hottest entertainer is returning to our stage.  Who can forget Lady Gaga’s flaming bra from 2009? She is proof that at the MMVAs, anything and everything can happen!”

Past MMVAS performers and presenters include: Adam Lambert, Drake, Ke$ha, Justin Bieber, Katy Perry, Down With Webster, The Black Eyed Peas, Nickelback, Rihanna, Jonas Brothers, Hedley, Kellan Lutz, Kelly Clarkson, Miley Cyrus, Nina Dobrev, Paris Hilton, Pauly D, Snooki, Britney Spears, Avril Lavigne, Kanye West, Taylor Lautner, Brody Jenner, Ashley Greene and many more.

Things are being mixed up at the Nation’s Music Station. Muchmusic announced yesterday (via Twitter) that their new flagship daily show will be called “New Music Live” (@muchNML). The show is replacing the now defunct Much On Demand series which aired from 1997-2010.

No real details on the series have been released but we know that the series will have similar elements to Much On Demand including live performances, videos and VJ’s at the helm at Muchmusic’s street-level studios at 299 Queen Street West.

The show will be a part of the much larger overhaul of Muchmusic as it’s on it’s way to HD. The control room has been completely converted over as has the new studio. The space has been completely transformed and has become much roomier since the makeover. Click here to see photos of the new studio.

The show is expected to premiere next week at 5pm on Much.
