Much Music Video Awards

More superstar perfomers have been added to the lineup for the 2011 Muchmusic Video Awards which goes down Sunday, June 18 on Muchmusic and Fuse (US).

Along with previously mentioned co-host Selena Gomez and the one and only Lady Gaga, Muchmusic has announced the additions to the lineup: Canadian bad girl, Avril Lavigne; R&B Crooner, Bruno Mars; Canadian rockers, City and Colour; and Indie Rockers, The Black Keys.

The show has become the ultimate show of the summer and gives fans an up-close and personal look at some of the best pop artists in the world.

Previous years performers have included Lady Gaga (remember the exploding bra?), NKOTB, Britney Spears, Miley Cirus and Rhianna. This year is sure to raise the bar yet again.

Fans get ready to go buck-wild as MuchMusic announced today Ke$ha, Adam Lambert, Vancouver’s Marianas Trench and Toronto’s Down With Webster are set to rock the stage at the 2010 MUCHMUSIC VIDEO AWARDS.

Don’t miss the music mania happening live on Sunday, June 20 at 9 p.m. ET, with the MMVAs RED CARPET SPECIAL at 8 p.m. ET. The artists join previously announced performers Justin Bieber, Katy Perry, and co-host Miley Cyrus, with additional performer and guest announcements to come. MuchMusic also confirmed today that the MMVAs wristband giveaway goes down Saturday, June 12 at MuchMusic HQ (details below).

“The MMVAs will be amazeballz,” said Ke$ha. “All you hot Canadians will be covered in glitter.”

“MuchMusic and Canada have always been such great hosts to me,” said Adam Lambert. “I can’t wait to go back to rock the glam for all those fans!”

“We in the noble warriors’ guild of Marianas Trench are super excited to take a break from slaying Hydras and fighting crime, to come and fight for the forces of good on the MMVAs,” said Josh Ramsay of Marianas Trench. “Expect the unexpected.”

“We grew up watching the MMVAs in Toronto’s Beaches, a streetcar ride away from MuchMusic,” said Bucky of Down With Webster. “After being voted best Live Performance on MuchMusic in 2009 and touring North America non-stop, we can’t wait to come home and play the MMVAs!”

“We’re very excited to add such an amazing group of performers to the MMVAs,” said Sheila Sullivan, 2010 MMVAs Executive Producer. “Ke$sha, Down With Webster, Adam Lambert, and Marianas Trench have proven they are Much fan-favourites, and we can’t wait to get them up close and personal with our fans.”

Rap superstar Drake leads with seven MMVAs nominations, followed by Hedley with six, and Justin Bieber with four. Ke$ha, Adam Lambert, Marianas Trench and Down Webster have two nods. For a full list of MMVAs nominees, click here.

Fans aged 14+ should keep Saturday, June 12 – and the days leading up to it – completely free if they want the coveted wristband for the 2010 MMVAs, the biggest show in the country. The giveaway starts at 8 a.m. on Saturday, June 12 at MuchMusic headquarters, located at the corner of Queen and John in downtown Toronto. Only one wristband per person is allowed and fans must be prepared to have it affixed to their wrist until the show on June 20. Music lovers are highly encouraged to help make a difference and bring a non-perishable food item for the Daily Bread Food Bank and, as always, photo ID is absolutely mandatory!

Ke$ha’s debut album, Animal, was released on January 5, 2010. Her blockbuster first single “TiK ToK” is certified seven times platinum in Canada and has sold over 7.5 million tracks worldwide. Her follow-up single, “Blah Blah Blah” has gone twice platinum. Ke$ha’s latest hit, “Your Love is My Drug,” is the pop star’s third track to be in the Top 10 BDS Canada’s CHR radio chart. And if her last visit to MUCHONDEMAND is any indication, Ke$ha is set to burn up the stage on June 20 and leave nothing but glitter behind.

Adam Lambert

When Adam Lambert dropped by MuchMusic’s Queen St. HQ for MUCHONDEMAND, fans were in a frenzy! It’s no wonder – Lambert’s star has been on the rise since his first performance on AMERICAN IDOL. His highly-anticipated debut release, For Your Entertainment hit stores on November 23, 2009 and went on to hit certified platinum in Canada. His hit single “Whataya Want From Me” has reached triple platinum, solidifying Lambert as a force to be reckoned with on the MMVAs’ stage.

Marianas Trench

Marianas Trench is no stranger to the MMVAs, grabbing four nominations at last year’s show. After taking Canada by storm with their debut album Fix Me, and hit songs like “Shake Tramp”, “Beside You” and “Celebrity Status,” the Vancouver band is yet to slow down. Marianas Trench released their second album Masterpiece Theatre, in February 2009. The album was certified gold in Canada, and hit singles “Cross My Heart” and “All to Myself” surpassed double platinum status for digital single sales. Fans get to check out these high-energy boys at this year’s show.

Down With Webster

The last time Down With Webster hit up MUCHONDEMAND they sent fans into a tail-spin. Known for their on-stage antics and high-octane performances, the seven-member, genre-bending band has been described as a modern-day Sly & The Family Stone meets Beastie Boys. Hit singles “Rich Girl$” and “Your Man,” off their debut album Time To Win, vol. 1, are certified platinum in Canada. Their next single, “Whoa Is Me” hits the airwaves on June 8, 2010. Timbaland calls them “the illest group I’ve ever seen live in person,” and Bootsy Collins calls them “Badass!” It’s safe to say that this Toronto-based band is set to get the party started at this year’s MMVAs.

For those fans who can’t make it to the T dot, no need to fear – MuchMusic has joined forces with media partners to win the ultimate MMVAs flyaway prize packages, including VIP passes to the show. Look for details in the coming weeks on and with the following partners:

After last night’s Much Music Video Awards aired live from Toronto, an entirely different type of issue is making news that has nothing to do with the evening’s hosts, performances or category winners. According to reports, celebrity gossip blogger Perez Hilton was assaulted by a manager for Black Eyed Peas member

After an after party for the MMVA’s, Perez Hilton logged onto his Twitter account claiming that he had been assaulted by following a series of disputes earlier in the night when Fergie asked the blogger to step making fun of their band and its members on his website. Apparently, the Black Eyed Peas and their entourage ran into Perez at a nightclub hosting an MMVA after party, and in response to the heated discussions, manager for punched Perez in the face multiple times. In response to this altercation, police were apparently called and the manager was arrested. Since then and Perez Hilton have both posted video responses on their websites addressing what happened and telling their side of the story.

While the Much Music Video Awards did seem to draw a decent guest list this year, it’s a little sad that the Canadian event will finally make news South of the border, and it’s because of a celebrity fight.
