MTV announces the first line-up of artists who will perform LIVE at the “2011 MTV Video Music Awards.”  

British singer-songwriter and chart-topper Adele, whose quadruple platinum hit single “Rolling in the Deep” received an incredible seven nominations, will make her VMA performance debut at this year’s show.

With an impressive year under his belt and three nominations in his pocket, including “Best Hip Hop,” superstar music mogul Lil Wayne is aiming to take the VMA crown once he hits the stage to perform.

After his memorable debut at the 2007 VMAs, Chris Brown, who has multiple VMA nods, is ready to up his game and unleash another huge performance.

The “2011 MTV Video Music Awards” will air live from Nokia Theater L.A. Live in Los Angeles on Sunday, August 28, 2011 at 9PM (Live ET/Tape delayed PT.) MTV will announce additional performers and presenters on a later date.

Viewers can vote for general VMA categories, including “Best New Artist,” by visiting vma.mtv.com online or m.mtv.com on their mobile phone.  In addition, Best New Artist text voting is open to all wireless carrier subscribers by texting BNA to 66333. Voting continues through the show, live on August 28th.  Verizon subscribers can vote on all categories via SMS by texting VMA to 66333 (standard message rates apply.)

The 2011 “MTV Video Music Awards” will be available to a potential viewing audience of more than 1.2 billion people via MTV’s global network of more than 60 channels reaching more than 640 million households around the world as well as through syndication.  In addition, its convergent programming and content will reach the entire interactive community, via MTV’s nearly 200 digital media properties around the world.

The 2010 VMAs averaged a 10.0 P12-34 rating and 11.4 million total viewers, marking the network’s best deliveries for any MTV telecast since the 2002 VMAs (8/29/02) as well as making it the third most watched telecast in MTV’s history.

The annual battle for music video supremacy is on for this year’s hottest pop, rock and hip-hop artists at the upcoming “2011 MTV Video Music Awards” on Sunday, August 28 at 9PM (ET/PT).  

MTV last week announced the nominees for this year’s fourteen VMA categories.  Katy Perry leads the way with an incredible nine VMA nominations which include “Video of the Year” and “Best Female Video,” for her explosive hit, “Firework,” “Best Pop Video” for Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.), and “Best Special Effects” for her futuristic chart-topping hit and this year’s current top selling digital song in the U.S., “E.T.” featuring Kanye West.

Following her astounding year and success of “21” as the year’s biggest selling album to date, Adele has garnered an impressive seven nominations for her soulful smash hit, “Rolling In the Deep.” Kanye West is the alpha male VMA nominee racking up seven nominations for his collaboration with Perry, as well as for his powerful and artistic videos “All of The Lights” and “Power.” 

The 2011 VMA nominee landscape is filled with MTV veterans and newcomers alike. Silky, smooth singer / songwriter Bruno Mars is up for four coveted Moonman awards.  Beyoncé, Eminem, Lady Gaga, Nicki Minaj, and Thirty Seconds To Mars, have three VMA nominations apiece.  Beastie Boys, Chris Brown, Pitbull, Lil Wayne, as well as first time VMA nominees, Tyler, The Creator, Foster the People and Manchester Orchestra all have two nods each for Moonmen this year.

Last night, more people were watching MuchMusic from 9-11 p.m. than any other channel in Canada when 918,000 viewers tuned in for the 2010 MTV VIDEO MUSIC AWARDS.

Winning its timeslot for both specialty and conventional television, viewers saw Canadian sensation Justin Bieber win Best New Artist, Drake tear up the stage, and host Chelsea Handler get hot tub-tastic with the cast of JERSEY SHORE. Meanwhile, nearly half a million (496,000) P12-34 watched the two-hour show, one of the largest single audiences in that demo in MuchMusic history.

It’s a celebrity mecca as more A-List presenters are confirmed for the 2010 MTV VIDEO MUSIC AWARDS, airing this Sunday, September 12 at 9 p.m. ET, exclusively in Canada on MuchMusic.

MTV confirmed that Cher, Ellen DeGeneres, Katy Perry, the cast of GLEE including Jane Lynch, Cory Monteith, Chris Colfer, Amber Riley, Chris Pine, Rosario Dawson, the cast of JACKASS including Johnny Knoxville, Bam Margera, Steve-O, Evan Rachel Wood, Kim Kardashian, and Romeo of the Latin music sensation Aventura, are set to present at the 2010 MTV VIDEO MUSIC AWARDS.

Canadian phenomenon Justin Bieber and B.o.B make their VMA performance debuts at the 2010 MTV VIDEO MUSIC AWARDS, airing live in Canada on Sunday, September 12 at 9 p.m. ET on MuchMusic.

Set to take the iconic stage for the first time, Justin Bieber and B.o.B are eager to fill the shoes of past VMA legends with their unprecedented performances. Bieber, who is nominated for “Best New Artist,” and B.o.B, who received an impressive 5 nominations, join an incredible line-up of performers, including Kanye West, Drake, and Florence + The Machine.

Get ready to shake it! MTV announced that dance music phenomenon Deadmau5 is serving as the house artist during the 2010 MTV VIDEO MUSIC AWARDS, airing live in Canada on Sunday, September 12 at 9 p.m. ET on MuchMusic.

As the house DJ, Deadmau5 serves as the musical maestro for the duration of the show, creating original remixes from a variety of artists including live musical guests.

The 28 year-old Toronto native, Deadmau5 (AKA Joel Zimmerman), is one of the top ranked DJs in the world. Deadmau5 recently headlined at Coachella Music Festival, Ultra Music Festival and LA’S Electronic Daisy Carniva, and made appearances at Sasquatch and Bonnaroo.

His latest album For Lack of a Better Name is available now, and he’s set to drop his next album this winter. Past house artists have included Travis Barker and DJ AM, Mark Ronson, and Wale.
