OMNI_logoOMNI Television has confirmed it will air the very first Mandarin broadcast of an MLB game in Canada this week.

The Toronto Blue Jays match against the Boston Red Sox on June 27 will be broadcast in the Mandarin language, with Taiwan-native Chien-Ming Wang scheduled to start as pitcher for the Blue Jays.

To anchor the special coverage, OMNI Television’s Wei Lee will call the play-by-play with former Taiwanese baseball player Robert Wu as analyst. Continue reading »

Rogers Media has signalled its intention to bring the MLB Network to Canada.

The media company, which owns the Toronto Blue Jays and Sportsnet, is sponsoring the baseball channel’s application to the Canadian Radio-Television and Communications commission to be added to the list of non-Canadian TV services authorised for distribution in Canada.

The application says that Rogers and the MLB Network are “currently in discussions” to “widely distribute” the channel in Canada. Continue reading »
