Jon & Kate Plus 8

It was announced earlier this week that Jon Gosselin was being fired by TLC from the family’s hit show “Jon & Kate Plus 8”, but what you might not have heard by now is about the TV dad’s retalliation; threating to pull the plug on the show saying he believes the environment is detrimental to his children. Funny how that never came up when the couple was struggling to save their marriage, or even while he was still actively involved with the show. This announcement only came after his TLC paycheque was being threatened. Nonetheless, here’s Jon Gosselin’s take on the situation, as he outlined in an interview on Larry King Live last night.

“It’s not healthy for my kids to be on the show… it’s detrimental to them. It’s my right as a parent and as a father of my kids to determine whether the show is good for my family. I don’t think it’s healthy for them because we’re going through a divorce right now. I don’t think it should be televised and I think my kids should be taken off the show.”

Kate’s camp has also responded today, explaining that Jon will not be in a position to pull the plug on “Kate Plus 8”. On the Today Show this morning, Kate’s lawyer explained the couple’s agreement “These parties entered into an agreement once the divorce action was filed that allowed each parent — who had physical custody of the children — to make the filming decisions when the children were with them,” said Mark Momjian.
Well, at least one positive resolution came out of the situation today -Jon Gosselin changed the sign banning TLC from his home which contained a few typos – including the spelling of his name.

Viewers of Jon & Kate Plus 8, whether loyal or otherwise, have been holding their breath waiting for the big announcement that the show was cancelled. Instead, it seems the show has simply decided to cancel their contract with one of the reality star parents – yes, TLC is saying goodbye to Jon Gosselin! This announcement follows last night’s “new” episode which took previously unused footage of Kate’s time with the children on Baldhead Island earlier this summer, which was filmed before the couple’s big separation announcement. It was clear to viewers who tuned in last night, that new footage had not been filmed, despite TLC delivering a “new” episode according to schedule.

Today it’s all coming together, since clearly something else has been going on behind the scenes, and that’s the decision to dump the reality show dad who has recently created bad publicity for the TV show. On November 2nd, TLC will be relaunching the series which will be newly titled “Kate Plus 8″…not quite as catchy, but we’ll take it. According to the network, Jon Gosselin will appear on the show on occasion, but the focus will be on Kate’s journey as a single mother, which they believe will be more relatable to viewers. “Given the recent changes in the family dynamics, it only makes sense for us to refresh and recalibrate the program to keep pace with the family. The family has evolved and we are attempting to evolve with it; we feel that Kate’s journey really resonates with our viewers. Additionally the network is in development on a Kate project for 2010” says Eileen O’Neill, President and GM, TLC.

As if their household isn’t shrinking enough, since their family quota has gone from 10 to 9, with only one parent at a time staying at home with the kids; but now, the family has decided to give up the dogs that they adopted soon after moving into the million dollar property. There’s already been some controversy surrounding these dogs, since some animal advocate groups claimed at one point that they were being mistreated by the children, and now, they’re leaving the Gosselin home to go back to the breeder they were purchased from.

Yes, above is a picture of the german sheppards Chooka and Nala making the journey from the Gosselin’s back to the breeder. In hindsight now I’m sure the family is thinking they never should have got the animals, seeing as how their marriage was failing and all; but they did make the commitment and now, because no one wants to bother caring for them they’re giving them up. The worst part is that after all these changes that the kids have undergone throughout their parent’s seperation, they’re losing another part of their family that brings them stability and consistency.

The time has finally come, Jon & Kate Plus 8 is finally beginning to get old for a die hard fan (me). I have to be honest, this season I’ve primarily watched the show for great blog content; although I did enjoy it during previous seasons. This week, I could have watched the show when it aired on Monday; in fact, I tuned in and then I changed the channel. I’m done with the sob stories; yes divorce sucks, yes it’s hard on the estranged couple, but it was their decision. Instead of focusing on the how it’s affecting the children, they’re complaining about how hard it is to do it alone. Yes, I get it, no I’m not being heartless, I’m just tired of a couple who should be grieving the loss of their marriage, doing so, so publicly and constant.

On Monday night, I tuned into the season premiere of Gossip Girl, instead of Jon & Kate Plus 8, a show I typically catch on reruns, if that. I did watch the missed episode of Jon & Kate Plus 8 when it reaired last night on TLC and I could have done without. Let’s be honest here, blog content, or no blog content, I just don’t think I can do it anymore. Jon & Kate Plus 8, you might be young parents, but you’re getting old!!

This week on Good Morning America, Jon Gosselin lashed out at his soon to be ex-wife Kate Gosselin, saying that he took a lot of abuse in the marriage. Yeah, well, anyone who watched the show pretty much knew that already. But in an attempt to make his estranged wife look bad, he admitted something we already suspected – that his selfishness played a role in ending his marriage.

During his interview on GMA, Jon Gosselin commented on Kate’s busy schedule with her speaking engagements and book tour, and how it left him holding down the fort at home Well, excuse me, I’m taking care of the kids. She’s on book tours, she’s doing all these things. You know, she’s gone a week. You know, comes back. Unpacks, repacks, does laundry, packs up and leaves again,” Gosselin said. “I’m standing there like, ‘Oh, OK. Your mom’s gone again.'” His concern, clearly wasn’t about his kids not seeing their mom often enough, because that doesn’t lead to divorce. Jon Gosselin was clearly resentful of all of the responsibility he was left with at home while taking care of his 8 children.

I think it’s clear that Jon would rather be a carefree party dad, as he’s demonstrating now since he’s found freedom from Kate and would rather not deal with the responsibility of caring for 8 children on his own. Fair to some degree, but his wife did it; during the first 2 years of their children’s lives, Kate stayed home with the children, at a stage when as parents they needed to be more hands on than ever, while Jon went to work for 12 or more hours per day. Yes, that’s called making a living, but it’s no different from what Kate is trying to do now. Whether or not you agree that the family is capitalizing strictly by throwing their kinds in the spotlight, it is now how they make a living to support their family, and a little bit of give and take is necessary for any strong marriage; clearly something that Jon was no longer willing to do, even for the sake of the family.

Let’s not even get into the fact that by airing their dirty laundry to the nation, going as far as saying he “despises Kate”, Jon Gosselin is putting his children in a situation where they’re likely to see the conflict taking place between their parents.

Jon Gosselin, you’ve heard it before but it’s time to grow up and be a dad.

Last night Kate Gosselin made an appearance on Larry King live as part of her post-divorce press tour. Her interview with Larry King was the usual song and dance that we’ve learned to expect from her. She refused to answer any of the hard questions – like how her and Jon went from renewing their marriage vows in Hawaii one month, to on the verge of separation the next. Instead of addressing these questions posed by the talk show host, she claimed she couldn’t answer because she’s vowed to say only positive things for the sake of her kids. Yeah right…we’ve all been watching and seen the knocks against her estranged husband.

Kate did address a few divorce topics, explaining how her 8 children are coping with the split: “They understand the process [of divorce]. They’re working through it the same way that Jon and I are. They’re doing remarkably well.”

I can’t help but think that she is discouraging people from watching her TLC show, which is obviously something she’s not setting out to accomplish. Ratings might have been higher than ever around the time the reality tv couple announced their split, but for all of those who are hoping to tune in to learn some more juicy gossip about the couple, it’s being made pretty clear that it’s not something we can expect.

Kate did address one recent piece of news that came out of the rumor mill – the fight at the former couple’s home that lead to police being called and Kate checking into a local hotel in tears. Kate claims she knew that the kids were in the hands of a babysitter, and not their dad whose time it was with the kids. “It was not this huge fight,” she said. “It was just a thing where I wanted to be there with the kids as opposed to a babysitter. And he wasn’t fond of that idea.” She also explains that she didn’t call 911, but did pick up the phone to the local police. She blames the incident on this being one of her bad days, ” I have good days and bad days…this day was a rough day.”

What do you think’s in store for Jon & Kate Plus 8..not the media frenzy, the TLC show?

On last night’s episode of Jon & Kate Plus 8, previously filmed footage of the couple leading their separate lives, as Kate took all of the children to Bald Head Island in North Carolina and Jon stayed home to manage their kitchen renovation. This footage was filmed prior to the couple announcing their separation and filing for divorce, and during the on-the-moment stuff shown, it’s clear that the couple is still trying to make excuses for the way they’re managing their lives. However, as the couple is interviewed about those weeks prior to their official split, it’s clear that the filming has taken place following their big revelation – particularly since the iconic interview love seat has since been replaced by one single arm chair.

Despite the fact that Kate admitted while breaking down on the Today Show this week during an interview with Meredith Viera, that she’s holding onto the past for the sake of her kids, which includes still wearing her wedding ring, she seems to really be stepping up to the plate in her parenting. Despite the heat Kate has taken in the media for her Type A personality, in the face of adversity she really is stepping up to the plate, even putting aside some of her fears of mess. In last night’s episode, the kids were allowed to paint themselves in pudding, and the mom of 8 was hands on and never even melted down about the mess! She also held a snake despite her fears, following last week’s backyard camping fiasco which she attributes to her new “will do anything” attitude. But, despite her attempts to fill the void her estranged husband has left by gallivanting around the world and spending money without a care in the world, she admits that no matter what she does, she can’t make up for the fact that Jon is not there.

The 8 Gosselin children’s Aunt Jodi was regularly filmed on the earlier seasons of Jon & Kate Plus 8 as she stepped into help out the growing family and busy parents. However, since a bit of a family estrangement Aunt Jodi Kreider has been speaking out against both Jon & Kate stating that the children’s needs aren’t being put first.

More recently since the couple announced their split, Jodi and her husband Kevin have been more verbal than ever, even appearing on the Today Show in hopes that someone will listen and make some changes that are favorable to the sextuplets and twins in the Gosselin family.

“It’s tragic, and that is why we are continuing to speak out for the children,” Jodi Kreider told Harry Smith. “They need to be looked at as the first priority. Damage has already been done.”

Jodi Kreider said filming of the children needs to be limited so the kids can have their childhoods. Kreider also called for trust funds to be established for each of the eight Gosselin children and for “ethical guidelines for filming children, because they’re filming private moments, such as bathroom time.”

What we’re seeing now is a family that’s in crisis,” Kevin Kreider told Smith. “And we fell like TLC needs to be held responsible for what they’re choosing to air.”

He blamed TLC for trying to cut him off from his sister. “They have control,” Kevin Kreider said of TLC. “They’re being surrounded by these people that have … paid positions, and they’re kind of like looking for the money rather than the welfare of the children.”

As rumors are circulating that Jon Gosselin, father of 8 from Jon & Kate Plus 8 is engaged to 22-year old party girl Hayley Glassman, another person has come out of the woodwork to publicly announce that she has been dating the recently seperated 32-year old father.

Last week Jon Gosselin, and Star Magazine reported Kate Major were filmed together leaving a New York restaurant. Since the reality star seems to complain about the publicity, while also encouraging it on himself withan openness to the press; it could be easily assumed that he was there to collaborate on an interview with. She claims that that’s how it all started, but then mentioned that she fell for Jon and they began dating from there. As they’re being snapped dining in East Hampton, and dining with Lindsay Lohan’s father Michael – it is very possible that the two are in fact dating. One thing for sure is the father of 8 is wasting no time playing the field, and he sure seems to have a thing for younger blonds.
