Internationally acclaimed celebrity chef Jamie Oliver is delving into the underbelly of America’s food scene in search of the true heart of the country: its people, music, culture, and most importantly, its food.
The new six-part series, Jamie’s American Road Trip, airs Thursdays at 9 pm ET/10 pm PT beginning with its Canadian broadcast premiere on November 11.
In each episode, Jamie takes a pass on tourist traps and fancy restaurants to show viewers that what’s really behind good, honest American food has little to do with burgers, fries, and oversized portions.
Whether serving food on the streets of New York City’s Queens district in the bitter cold of winter or cooking with Navajo elders in Arizona who are trying to keep their food culture alive, Jamie meets and learns important lessons from the true heroes of American cuisine.
Not only does Jamie pick up and prepare delicious new recipes in each episode, but he also learns how other cultures adapt when they come to America. Often exploring difficult socioeconomic and cultural issues such as homelessness, hunger, and poverty, Jamie’s American Road Trip pushes the envelope and prompts viewers to think beyond any stereotypes of American cuisine.
“I wanted to get to the heart of great American food,” says Jamie Oliver. “I set off on what I knew would be a completely inspiring trip and I wasn’t wrong. From New York to New Orleans, the energy of Los Angeles to the big skies of Wyoming, I found what I was looking for: some of the most diverse and delicious recipes I’ve ever come across!”
“Jamie has once again brought us a sensational new program, true to his candid and charming character and rich in culture, emotion, and mouth-watering food experiences,” says Emily Morgan, Vice President, Content, Food Network, HGTV, and DIY Network, Canwest Broadcasting. “Bringing entertaining and thought provoking content to our viewers, his series always hit a homerun and Jamie’s American Road Trip will be no exception.”
For viewers unable to watch the series on air, full episodes of Jamie’s American Road Trip will be available for streaming from foodnetwork.ca after each broadcast airing.
Jamie Oliver’s new cookbook, ‘Jamie’s America’, complements Jamie’s American Road Trip as a compilation of recipes collected during his travels across the country. The cookbook features highlights of the varied multicultural dishes Jamie samples, such as chicken, sausage and prawn jambalaya; gorditas and salsa; appleberry pie; and sticky toffee cupcakes.
