CTV Inc. today announced it has completed installation of an over-the-air (OTA) High Definition transmitter in Montréal. CTV becomes Canada’s only broadcaster to have HD transmitters in Toronto, Vancouver, Calgary, and Montréal.

CTV Montréal’s leading lineup of top-rated programming – from THE BIG BANG THEORY, AMERICAN IDOL, and THE MENTALIST to FLASHPOINT and the upcoming SUPER BOWL XLV – is now available to viewers with an HD-capable television equipped with a digital tuner and antenna on Channel 12.1 (RF channel 51).

“Viewers receiving CTV over-the-air can now get Montréal’s most-watched programs in High Definition,” said Don Bastien, Senior Vice-President and General Manager, CTV Montréal. “As Montréal’s #1 English-language television station, we are enormously proud to deliver this service to our viewers.”

Today’s announcement represents the latest development in the multi-stage rollout of CTV Inc.’s Canadian HD strategy. CTV was the first national conventional broadcaster to transmit over-the-air in High Definition when its first HD transmitters began operating in Toronto and Vancouver in 2005. CTV was also the first national broadcaster to transmit a feed in High Definition when CTV HD East debuted in 2003, followed by CTV HD West in 2004.

Currently celebrating its 50th year of broadcasting, CTV Montreal was the first private television station in Quebec. Its newscasts have been the top-rated English news programs in Montreal since it began, earning the station its place as a reliable voice for the English community in Montréal. In its market, CTV Montreal offers supper-hour and late-night newscasts seven days a week, plus a full hour of news weekdays at noon. CTV NEWS with Todd van der Heyden and Mutsumi Takahashi and the entire news team deliver a comprehensive local news and events package, along with national and international news coverage. CTV Montreal is proud to be known for its charitable work as well as its news programming including its work with Spirit of Giving a Community Action Program, which co-ordinates with six Montreal community organizations to help alleviate poverty in the city.
