Global Montreal

Global Montreal is pleased to announce that it will begin transmitting in full high definition beginning today on the Vidéotron cable service, channel 608.

Global Montreal’s move to HD gives viewers the opportunity to watch all of their favourite shows – including Glee, House and Rookie Blue – in a resolution substantially higher than that of standard television signals.

This move also comes at the perfect time, as it will allow viewers to catch an exciting selection of new Global fall programs, including Ringer, A Gifted Man, and the much-anticipated drama Prime Suspect with Maria Bello.

“The decision to broadcast in high-definition represents a major investment by Shaw Media to provide Global Montreal viewers with the best viewing experience possible,” says Karen MacDonald, News Director and Station Manger, Global Montreal. “This dedication will continue as we move to fully integrate HD into all aspects of Global Montreal’s broadcast operations.”

Viewers will also be able to watch Global Montreal in HD on Bell ExpressVu beginning in early September, with other carriers expected to follow. Global Montreal plans to fully integrate HD into their nightly newscasts, and expects to broadcast The Evening News at 6pm and News Final at 11pm in HD by the end of the year.

Global Montreal’s transmitters in Montreal, Sherbrooke and Quebec City have now all been upgraded to digital signals and are broadcasting in HD. Global Montreal’s new HD signal will replace the signal currently being fed to the area by Global Toronto, and will provide Quebec viewers with an HD experience as closely tailored to their local market as possible.
