McCoy (guest star Jeremy Sumpter) has gained popularity as the new star quarterback of the Dillon Panthers but his skills are put to the test at Friday night’s big rival game. Meanwhile, Landry thinks he is finally over Tyra when he meets Devin who seems to be the perfect girl, but he quickly learns Devin isn’t who she appears to be.

Friday, February 20 – 9pm ET/PT New quarterback J.D. McCoy (guest star Jeremy Sumpter) becomes a victim of freshman hazing but begins to win the respect of the town and his team after he wins his first game. Meanwhile, Julie and Matt get closer after a night at the lake as Tyra and Cash (guest star Zach Roerig) drift further apart when a woman shows up claiming he owes her child support.

Tyra’s (Adrianne Palicki) new love, Cash (guest star Zach Roerig), seems to be the man of her dreams but that quickly changes when his dark side comes to light. Jason (Scott Porter) thinks he has a solution to bring him and Erin back together, but she has a very different plan in mind. Meanwhile, after the team wins their big game, Coach Taylor (Kyle Chandler) makes a decision that leaves Matt (Zach Gilford) to debate the future of his football career. Smash struggles with his confidence on the field as Coach Taylor preps him for college tryouts. Meanwhile, Tami makes changes to the school budget and finds that the community cares more about a Jumbotron than education. Elsewhere, Matt Saracen is faced with the decision to emancipate himself so he can legally take care of his ailing grandmother—with his father in Iraq, his only hope of saving his grandmother is seeking the help of his estranged mother.

Brian “Smash” Williams has graduated and the start of the new school year has Coach Taylor uncertain about the strength of his team. Matt Saracen’s position as QB1 is in danger when a new freshman star player J.D. McCoy arrives on the scene. Smash continues to deal with his own demons after a season-ending injury causes him to lose his college scholarship. Meanwhile, Tami faces stressful challenges as the new principal of Dillon High School.

Brian is determined to get a football scholarship despite recent events; Tami runs into her high-school boyfriend, now a real estate mogul; Jason must decide if he is willing to change his life completely; Tim continues his pursuit of Lyla.
