FoodNetworkStar2013Food Network Star is due to hit Canadian screens again with an all-new cast of competitors who will be fighting it out for their dream job.

New this season, focus groups of Food Network fans will have their say on competitor performances and one previously eliminated finalist will be brought back for another chance at victory. The new season of Food Network Star premieres Sunday June 2nd at 9pm ET/PT.

Food Network A-listers Bobby Flay, Giada De Laurentiis and Alton Brown return as the three guiding mentors who also take on some of the judging this season. The hugely popular series Food Network Star returned to Food Network Canada with the most star-studded season yet.

Hosted by Bobby Flay and Giada DeLaurentiis, and aided by a selection committee including Food Network executives Bob Tuschman and Susie Fogelson, Food Network Star follows 15 finalists as they compete in a series of food-related challenges for the chance to host their own show on Food Network.

In Tuesday night’s much-anticipated season finale, the heat is on between the three finalists.  Chicago-based Jeff Mauro, Las Vegas-based Vic “Vegas” Moea, and Aspen-based Susie Jimenez must prepare the best dishes of their life to present to the selection committee.  

In a final twist, only two finalists make it to the next challenge to film their signature pilot episode directed by surprise guest, Guy Fieri. After evaluations and deliberations, one finalist sees his or her photo added to the Food Network wall of fame and is named a Food Network Star.

Tension rises as the four finalists enter Tuesday night’s challenge to battle it out Iron Chef America style. Food Network’s Alton Brown explains that two finalists will battle in Kitchen Stadium creating dishes inspired by a secret ingredient while the other two act as commentators trying to outdo each other’s knowledge and finesse, and then the pairs switch roles. Iron Chef Michael Symon joins the intense action as a guest judge, and the heat is on in this head-to-head battle as the competitors taste and judge each other’s food for the first time this season!

In Tuesday night’s 90-minute mid-season episode, the ten remaining finalists must prove they can entertain just as well as they can cook.  Guest Host Guy Fieri (Diners, Drive-ins and Dives) challenges each finalist to take part in a mock taping of Diners, Drive-ins and Dives at Mel’s Drive-In in Hollywood, which takes some finalists out of their kitchen comfort zone.  

Then, it’s all fireworks as the competitors put their own spin on American classics using beer as a special ingredient for the Fourth of July All-American Food Festival.  The twist?  Finalists must take the stage and serve as the live entertainment for the day, demonstrating their entrée for the audience before overseeing their individual stations.

In Tuesday night’s episode of Food Network Star, season five Star winner, Melissa d’Arabian (Ten Dollar Dinners), kicks off the episode by challenging each of the 11 remaining finalists to create an amuse bouche in 45 minutes for a special guest using cereals, toaster pastries, and snacks along with other items typically found in a home kitchen.

Guest star Michael Symon (Iron Chef America) joins the contestants as they present their dishes one-by-one.

Then, it’s off to the set of ABC’s hit series Cougar Town where the finalists are divided into five teams and challenged to create an on-set meal for the cast and crew. Each team must tailor their meal to the department they are assigned and Paula Deen (Paula’s Best Dishes), Courteney Cox, show creator Bill Lawrence and other cast members are on hand to evaluate the final product.

In Tuesday night’s sugary sweet 90-minute episode of Food Network Star, surprise guests Duff Goldman (Ace of Cakes) and Robert Irvine (Restaurant: Impossible, Worst Cooks In America) challenge the 12 finalists to create a “Dueling Dessert” party. Two teams, two personalities and two different demands – the contestants set out on Team Duff and Team Robert to create decadent dessert dishes to suit the tastes of their team captains.

Food Network Star follows 15 finalists as they compete in a series of food-related challenges for the chance to host their own show on Food Network. 

This season, the finalists will do whatever it takes to outshine their competition.  From creating and advertising a unique food truck under the watchful eye of Tyler Florence to throwing an impromptu dinner party for Wolfgang Puck, creating a meal using beer for an All-American 4th of July Food Festival hosted by Guy Fieri or competing head-to-head Iron Chef America style in Kitchen Stadium, the competitors will have to prove they can play in the big leagues. 

Making special guest appearances this season are Mario Lopez, Anne Burrell, Scott Conant, Alton Brown, Melissa D’Arabian, Michael Symon, The Neelys, Duff Goldman, Robert Irvine, Paula Deen, Ina Garten, Rachel Ray, and Courtney Cox along with the full cast of Cougar Town.

The season-long trials and triumphs culminate in the finale on August 23, 2011 at 9pm ET/10pm PT where the finalist proven to have the ultimate recipe for success is revealed and begins filming a six-episode Food Network series.
