Flight Of The Conchords

Flight of the Conchords comic Rhys Darby has had his name added to the list of potential replacements for the departing Steve Carell on the American series The Office.

Entertainment Weekly has confirmed that the New Zealand star has been tentatively approached by producers of the American comedy to gauge his interest in joining the cast as a possible replacement for Carell.

Several names have been bandied around as the producers look to fill the gap soon to be left by Carell, with another early frontrunner being Danny McBride, who has featured in the likes of Pineapple Express and HBO series Eastbound & Down.

The Office showrunner Paul Lieberstein confirmed to EW that they are “having discussions” with several rising comic-actors, including Darby, to gauge interest.

Whether or not the replacement will directly fill Carell’s character’s position as boss on the show is yet to be defined, with the possibility of an existing cast member being promoted still in play.
