Rookie Blue creator Tassie Cameron has credited Flashpoint as being a “game-changer” for TV in Canada.

Cameron, who served as a co-executive producer and writer on Flashpoint, says that without it Rookie Blue may not have even existed.

“I have such a soft spot for that show,” Cameron says of Flashpoint. “Having been involved in the first year and having worked with Mark (Ellis) and Stephanie (Morgenstern, its creator-producers) closely. It really was a game-changer for Canadian television.

“Certainly, I don’t know that there would have been a ‘Rookie Blue’ without a ‘Flashpoint,’” adds Cameron. “I feel grateful, and I feel that I learned a lot. They made a very gracious exit, and did it on their own terms and did it beautifully. I really respect that.” Continue reading »

Flashpoint went out with a bang last week, posting its biggest audience ever.

The CTV series ended its final season with 2.1m viewers, bringing the season’s average up to 1.8m per episode.

The Canadian drama was the #3 program of the night, trailing only The Big Bang Theory and Two and a Half Men.

A shattered, emotionally disturbed man (AJ Buckley, CSI: NY) boards a city ferry with a shotgun and a suspicious package. Fearing the worst, Team One speeds to the scene, and discovers the delusional man is in fact a gifted pianist, and the package is a baby.

Team One is on the trail of Cole Berkley (Andrew Walker, Lawman), a desperate man who kidnaps a prominent politician in a last-ditch effort to save his land. Struggling to connect with Cole, the Team discovers he’s risking his life for his deaf nephew (Connor Price, Good Luck Chuck) who’s scarred by a traumatic past. But when the team learns that Cole himself is being used, Team One faces an explosive situation, with the life of Cole’s nephew hanging in the balance.

When an armored truck loaded with over $2 million vanishes, Team One races to track it down and intercept it – and finds itself under fire from an elite team of ex-soldiers.
