Fashion Star

Some of Jessica Simpson’s music may be laughable but is her life really all that funny?

NBC certainly think so as they are basing a semi-autobiographical sitcom around the singer and Fashion Star judge.

The network has begun developing the yet-to-be-named sitcom with Robin and Nick Bakay, the comedy geniuses behind Paul Blart: Mall Cop. Hmmm…

“We are thrilled to team up with the multi-talented Jessica Simpson to bring this new sitcom to life on NBC as she is truly a modern-day Lucy with incredible comedic chops,” series producer Electus chairman Ben Silverman says. “From running a fashion empire to wrangling her public image as a new mom, we see Jessica’s character approach a variety of ‘everyday’ circumstances that will get audiences laughing out loud.” Continue reading »

All of the talented designers put their skills to the test on the season finale of FASHION STAR. Who will make the ultimate sale and be crowned the winner? The stakes are set high and the only thing standing in the way of their dream is that one ultimate sale: a multi-million dollar prize of launching their collections in three of America’s largest retailers: Macy’s, H&M and Saks Fifth Avenue.

The future of fashion has arrived! Bell Media announced today it has acquired FASHION STAR, a new reality check for fashion wannabes hosted and executive-produced by Supermodel Elle Macpherson, for CTV Two and MuchMusic.

Featuring celebrity mentors Jessica Simpson, Nicole Richie and John Varvatos, the series gives 14 unknown designers the chance to win a multi-million dollar prize to launch their collections in American retailers.

Hot on the heels of Toronto Fashion Week (Mar. 12-17), FASHION STAR kicks-off with a 90-minute premiere Tuesday, Mar. 13 at 9:30 p.m. ET/PT on CTV Two.

The competition series resumes with one-hour episodes beginning Tuesday, Mar. 20 at 10 p.m. ET/PT on CTV Two. Encore presentations can be seen Mondays at 9 p.m. ET/PT beginning Mar. 19 on MuchMusic, following the finale of PRETTY LITTLE LIARS.

FASHION STAR follows competing designers as they participate in weekly tasks designed to further develop and expand their fashion empires. Caprice Willard, Terron E. Schaefer, and Nicole Christie are the industry heavyweight judges that vie for the rights to purchase and exclusively carry the work of the up-and-coming designers each week. The designers who do not sell any of their items to the buyers will be up for elimination. Celebrity mentors Simpson, Richie and Varvatos will be able to save designers from the chopping block. In the end, one designer will successfully combine fashion and business to become the next “Fashion Star.”

The winner receives $6,000,000 in orders for capsule collections, which consist of a few select items sold in three of America’s largest retailers. At the end of each episode, the winning designs showcased on the episode that week will be made available in select stores. The winning designs will be available online to Canadian consumers the next day.
