Global Toronto announced today that Antony Robart will be assuming the anchor duties for its weekend Evening News and News Final beginning March 26, 2011.

Robart, a seasoned news reporter who has been with Global Toronto since 2004, will take over the weekend anchor duties while Carolyn MacKenzie takes her maternity leave.

“We’re all so happy for Carolyn during this exciting chapter in her life,” said Ward Smith, News Director & Station Manager, Global Toronto. “While she is busy welcoming the newest addition to her family, our weekend newscasts will be in the very capable hands of Antony Robart.”

Born in Halifax and raised in Regina, Robart is a graduate of McGill University and Washington, DC’s American University. It was while he was in the U.S. Capital that Robart got his first crack at TV journalism with ABC News. From there he made the jump to CBC News followed by a two year stint at CNBC Europe and Radio France-International, which led Robart to Global Toronto, where he solidified his news credentials by working on stories such as the earthquake in Haiti and regularly contributing to the Global National newscast and Global’s 16:9 The Bigger Picture.

Global Toronto’s Evening News airs at 6:00pm and News Final at 11:00pm ET every Saturday and Sunday evening.
