On Monday, October 10 , HBO Canada , a multiplex channel of Astral ‘s The Movie Network (Eastern Canada) and Corus Entertainment ‘s Movie Central (Western Canada), brings smart, quirky comedies to Monday nights with the addition of new HBO programming to its fall line-up.
Starting Monday, October 10 are: the third season of Bored To Death at 9:00 p.m. ET/MT , starring Jason Schwartzman, Ted Danson and Zach Galifianakis, followed by the debut of HBO’s new half-hour series Enlightened , starring Laura Dern, at 9:30 p.m. ET/MT.
Created by real-life author Jonathan Ames, Bored To Death stars Jason Schwartzman as the fictional Jonathan Ames, a noir-obsessed writer who moonlights as an unlicensed private detective listing his services on Craigslist.
In Season 3, Ames has published A Blonde in the Woods , his collection of mystery storie swhile putting his sleuthing skills to the test for myriad clients.
Along for the ride again are Jonathan’s mentor and benefactor George Christopher (played by Ted Danson), and his cartoonist friend Ray Hueston (played by Zach Galifianakis).
Also this season: a shocking revelation drives Jonathan to embark on a quest to find his biological father; George opens an artisanal restaurant, “George on Jane,” while also attempting to reconnect with his estranged daughter; and Ray begins to transform into a Park Slope mom when one of the lesbians who bought his sperm on the black market contacts him after her divorce.
Guest stars this season include series veterans Allyce Beasley, Samantha Bee, Olympia Dukakis, John Hodgman, Richard Masur, Bebe Neuwirth, Patton Oswalt and Oliver Platt, as well as Dick Cavett, Chris Elliott, Halley Feiffer, Isla Fisher, Stacy Keach, David Rasche, Sarah Silverman, Mary Steenburgen, Casey Wilson and Zach Woods.
Executive Produced by Mike White and Laura Dern, Enlightened stars Dern as Amy Jellicoe, an ambitious executive at a global conglomerate who has been her own worst enemy for most of her adult life. Her self-destructive choices, both at home and at work, have resulted in a very public, humiliating nervous breakdown. After an extended stay at a treatment centre in Hawaii, Amy returns to her fractured life, determined to lead a more enlightened existence that inspires her to adopt a new attitude in her private life and at her company. But upon returning to the office, Amy discovers that her new enlightened outlook is unwelcome and even threatening to her co-workers and loved ones.
Enlightened also stars Luke Wilson as Amy’s drug-addicted ex-husband Levi; Oscar ® -nominee and Dern’s real-life mother Diane Ladd, as Amy’s disapproving mother Helen; Sarah Burns as Krista, the former assistant who has taken Amy’s old job; Timm Sharp as Amy’s sleazy boss Dougie; Amy Hill as Judy, the no-nonsense human resources rep who won’t give Amy a break; and Mike White as Amy’s seemingly meek co-worker Tyler.
New episodes of Bored To Death and Enlightened will be broadcast in High Definition, and available on demand following their network premieres. In Eastern Canada the series will be available via HBO Canada OnLine with Rogers On Demand OnLine, Bell TV Online and Videotron’s Illico Web, and in Western Canada via HBO Canada on Demand for Movie Central with Shaw Video On Demand, Shaw Direct Video On Demand and Bell TV Online.
