MuchMusic’s Gemini-nominated, breakout original series DISBAND makes its triumphant rock ‘n roll return on Tuesday, Nov. 17 at 6 p.m. ET. With one jam packed audition sneak peak and 13 brand new episodes, DISBAND’s Season 2 puts aspiring bands through a one week rock star boot camp. Under the watchful eye of DISBAND Guru Greig Nori and host Much VJ Sarah Taylor, the bands receive direct industry exposure, an all-important, true-to-life insider’s look at what the music biz is really all about, and a chance to perform in front of the country’s music industry elite. A panel of judges decide if their future is bright enough to be in the music biz or, if not, to DISBAND. The 13 new artists chosen for Season 2 to be announced soon.

The first season changed the lives of two bands – Stereos and Dean Lickyer – who both signed record deals with major labels as a direct result of the series. Stereos first single, “Summer Girl” hit #1 on iTunes less than 48 hours after their DISBAND episode aired last May and stayed there for five days achieving double platinum status. Their second single, “Throw Ya Hands Up” made them the first band in history to achieve two consecutive #1 hits on the Billboard Canadian Emerging Chart. They’ve opened for Katy Perry, toured with The Midway State, and played the Virgin Festival all within the last six months. Their numerous appearances on MUCHONDEMAND have welcomed some of the biggest crowds and loudest screams of the past year. Dean Lickyer has also been gaining momentum in their own right, with Gene Simmons’ dubbing them the best band at Canadian Music Week 2009 and awarding them $10,000 to prove it.

“DISBAND was the perfect way for Stereos to get the exposure we’d be working on for years,” said Pat Kordyback of Stereos. “Because the show was able to showcase our complete story – our personalities as well as our music – we were able to show our fans across the country what we were really about. There’s no question that DISBAND changed our lives.”

“DISBAND gives young artists a tangible opportunity to reach for their dreams by putting them directly in the faces of the key music industry decision makers,” said Brad Schwartz, Senior Vice President and General Manager, Much MTV Group, CTV Inc. “Bands like Stereos and Dean Lickyer already had the musical talent to make their mark, they just needed a helping hand to get there. And we’re excited to see more DISBAND discoveries on Season 2!”

“DISBAND is a comprehensive look inside the trials and tribulations of rock ‘n roll,” commented Randy Lennox, President & CEO, Universal Music Canada.  “As seen with the early successes of Stereos, DISBAND is an authentic program that can help propel a young band to stardom.”

This season Taylor and Nori are joined by judges Mark Spicoluk (Universal Music, A&R), Collin Lewis (The Agency Group), Katie Clark (Underground Operations – Management), and Chase Parsons (Chris Smith Management).

MuchMusic has forever changed the lives of six boys from Alberta. Now known as Stereos, the musicians were discovered on the MuchOriginal series DISBAND which helped them sign a major label record deal with Universal Music Canada, the country’s leading music company.  Don’t miss the rags to riches story in the one-hour season finale of DISBAND, premiering Wednesday, May 27 at 8 p.m. ET on MuchMusic.

A few months ago Pat Kordyback, Robb Chalifoux, Miles Holmwood, Daniel Johnson, and Aaron Verdonk were living a rock ‘n’ roll hard luck story – trying to keep their musical ambitions alive while scrambling to find money for rent. The born and bred Edmontonians who fuse doo wop, r&b, pop, rock, and hip hop, submitted a tape to MuchOriginal series DISBAND, which gives young Canadian bands a chance to be seen and heard by music industry execs. On a wing and a prayer, they hopped in a van and drove to Toronto, never imagining their MuchMusic journey would end with a major label deal from Universal Music Canada.

“DISBAND is exactly what MuchMusic is all about – music, celebration, and Canada,” said Brad Schwartz, Senior Vice-President, General Manager, Much MTV Group, CTV Inc. “Our audience has a great sense of bravado and a ‘why not’ spirit infused into all areas of their lives. DISBAND captures that spirit in every episode, but especially in this amazing season finale where we see one unknown Canadian band fulfill a dream by getting a major record deal.”

MuchMusic’s hour-long special chronicles the band’s journey to stardom, including three long road trips from Edmonton to Toronto and quitting numerous jobs multiple times to make their musical dreams a reality. Not to mention a week long rock star boot camp with DISBAND Guru Greig Nori (Producer, Iggy Pop, Hedley, Marianas Trench, and Lead Singer, Treblecharger), a session with the foremost songwriters in the business, the pressure of recording a professional demo in one day, a naked photo shoot, all capped off by a do-or-die performance in front of top music execs. After a few more shows, road trips, and meetings, Stereos signed with Universal Music Canada.

“MuchMusic’s DISBAND is an authentic glance into the world of rock ‘n’ roll and an exciting platform to expose new Canadian talent,” comments Mark Spicoluk, A&R, Universal Music Canada and DISBAND judge. “Stereos are an eclectic band whose star is rising and I can’t wait for them to be introduced to MuchMusic’s audience and the music fans across the country.”

Now, Stereos presents the world video premiere of their first single, Summer Girl and perform live on MUCHONDEMAND on Thursday, May 28 at 5 p.m. ET. The band is currently working with Canadian production legend Gavin Brown (Three Days Grace, Metric, Billy Talent) in anticipation of the release of their debut record, set for Fall 2009.
