Building upon the highly-acclaimed and award-winning OLN travel series, Departures, host Scott Wilson and cinematographer Andre Dupuis have now teamed up with Kiwi co-host Ellis Emmett (OLN’s Don’t Forget Your Passport) for the new, original, underwater series, Descending.
Airing Sundays at 9pm ET (6pm PT) on OLN and premiering Sunday, Feb 19 at 9pm ET (6pm PT), this 13-part series explores the world’s most incredible dive destinations.
Each one-hour episode features a new setting, stunning environments and fascinating cultures from some of the planet’s most remote locations. Watch as the team sets out to dive oceans, lakes and rivers, all the while discovering unique places, creatures and stories of human triumph and tragedy below the surface.
“With its unique mix of humour, curiosity and cultural insights, Descending brings all the remarkable elements of fan favourite Departures to a new level” said Claire Freeland, Director of Original Programming, Rogers Media. “We are excited to take viewers on an underwater voyage that pulls an unseen world up from beneath the waves.”
Descending pushes the boundaries of existing digital camera technology to capture incredible underwater marvels with cutting-edge techniques.
Whether it’s interacting with the ocean’s largest carnivores, exploring untouched remnants of war or watching the birth of the newest part of our planet – Wilson and Emmett bring a fresh combination of emotion and knowledge to every story.
“I’ve been to every continent and seen a lot of incredible things,” said Scott Wilson, host of Descending. “But when you look at a map of the earth, you see that it’s mostly water with some big islands that we all manage to live on. I want to see what most of us are missing.”
OLN’s ongoing support of Canadian independent productions has been a major contributor to the success of series such as Mantracker, Survivorman, Departures, Beyond Survival, Word Travels, Ed’s Up, Angry Planet and Which Way To.
Descending is created by Echo Bay Media, co-founded by Andre Dupuis and Scott Wilson and produced by Jennifer Howe and Jeff Wilson. Claire Freeland is the Director of Original Programming for Rogers Media.
