Defiance2Showcase’s new series Defiance has been given a second season.

Julie Benz, Grant Bowler and co. will return for another season in the Toronto-shot series, which has proven popular with audiences on both sides of the border.

Defiance2Defiance has gotten off to a cracking start on Showcase.

Last night’s premiere drew over 500,000 viewers (2+) and over 250 ,000 viewers, adults 25-54.

The Canadian ratings come on the back of big numbers on Syfy in the US, where is was deemed the most-watched launch on the channel since 2006’s Eureka.

The actress has spoken of her excitement about leaving behind the “sexy” female role and stepping into the role of badass Amanda Rosewater.

“At this stage, I’ve been acting forever,” she told tvline. “I’ve played the vixen. I’ve played the victim. I’ve played it all, and the thing I really love now is playing the badass woman.

“Mia [Kirshner] and I had to go to automatic weapons training together and I think I was a little more gung-ho about it than she was. I was having a blast, firing away and learning about how to change the mag, work the gun and clean it and all that. It really appealed to my competitive, tough side. Continue reading »

Showcase will debut the new series – which stars Grant Bowler, Julie Benz, Stephanie Leonidas, Tony Curran and Mia Kirshner – on Monday, April 15 with a two-hour premiere.

Syfy’s highly anticipated Defiance will have its Canadian series premiere Monday, April 15 at 10 pm ET/PT on Showcase, with a two-hour episode (culminating in a total of 12 episodes/13 hours).
