Rogers Media Inc. is the media player with the most momentum this fall as its family of networks continue to experience success and growth across all platforms. From quality programming to network rebranding to highly-anticipated channel launches, Rogers Media Inc. has established itself as the media company on the cutting edge of premium content and innovative development.

“With the success of our primetime programming on Citytv, the launch of Canada’s Got Talent, CityNews Channel and Sportsnet rebranding, as well as the upcoming addition of FX Canada, we are thrilled with the growth of Rogers Media over the past few months,” commented Scott Moore, President of Broadcasting, Rogers Media Inc. “We have been putting all of our efforts into developing an innovative, diverse and competitive group of offerings. We are very proud that our results can speak for themselves.”

Launching with one of the biggest fall seasons to date, Citytv has delivered the highest-rated comedies and dramas in network history – 2 Broke Girls and Terra Nova, respectively, with Terra Nova outperforming CTV’s The X-Factor in all major English metered markets. Several of its new series have received early pickups including critical darling New Girl, deliciously intriguing drama Revenge, hilarious comedy 2 Broke Girls and cheeky comedy Suburgatory, to name a few. With the strongest and most daring lineup of the fall season, Citytv has quickly become destination television that is bold, young and edgy.

“Building upon our acquisition success of the spring, Citytv’s fall lineup has outperformed our competitors on both a market and national level, with series like Terra Nova that have lived up to the hype by maintaining top ratings week after week,” said Malcolm Dunlop, Executive Vice-President Programming, Rogers Media Television. “With some of the highest rated new series of the fall, Citytv has proved it is more than just a regional network and has levelled the playing field in the Canadian television landscape.”

BBM Canada confirms Citytv outperformed CTV Two nationally this fall in the key A18-49 and A25-54 demos and in all major English metered markets (P2+). In addition, Citytv has experienced double-digit growth in the Calgary and Vancouver markets by 15% and 17% (A18-49).

In addition to the success of Citytv this fall, other Rogers Media properties have also made significant gains in recent weeks. CityNews Channel is now among the Top 5 digital networks in the highly-competitive Toronto market. Launching on October 3, the only HD 24-hour news channel in Toronto continues to bring viewers breaking news coverage that goes to the heart of issues that matter most. Also, the newly-branded Sportsnet has experienced dramatic growth, taking a larger share of the national sports audience with its coverage of key sporting events.

Citytv brings ‘a-dork-able’ to television this September with one of the most anticipated new comedies of the Fall – New Girl, starring indie sweetheart Zooey Deschanel.

With a fresh look at modern day relationships, New Girl follows the story of five, somewhat unlikely, friends who come to realize they need each other more than they ever knew and end up forming one charmingly dysfunctional family.

New Girl premieres Tuesday, Sept. 20 at 9pm ET/PT (8pm CT/MT) on Citytv and will air regularly on Tuesdays in this timeslot.

Meet Jess Day (Zooey Deschanel, 500 Days of Summer), an offbeat and adorable girl in her late 20s who, after a bad breakup, moves in with three single guys. Goofy, positive, vulnerable and honest to a fault, Jess has faith in people, even when she shouldn’t. Enter her new roommates, Nick (Jake Johnson, No Strings Attached) the bartender with the heart of gold , Schmidt (Max Greenfield, Ugly Betty), a hustling young professional who fancies himself a modern-day Casanova, and Winston (Lamorne Morris, Sex Love and Lies), an intensely competitive former athlete who has recently come to the realization that he’ll never play pro. Rounding out this group is Jess’s childhood best friend, Cece (Hannah Simone), a somewhat cynical model who is as put-together as Jess is awkward. In the pilot episode, Jess also meets Coach (guest star Damon Wayans Jr., Happy Endings), a former high school athlete who works as a personal trainer and is subletting a room. Mix in a whole lot of singing, some cringe-worthy moments, and some good snort laughs and you get New Girl   – a feel-good comedy thatjust keeps on getting better!

New Girl is just one of the anticipated comedies coming to Citytv’s new Fall lineup, which includes Michael Patrick King and Whitney Cummings’s 2 Broke Girls, Raising Hope, Suburgatory, and Last Man Standing starring Tim Allen. Citytv also remains Canada’s home to critical and fan-favourites Modern Family, Community, 30 Rock, Parks and Rec, and How I Met Your Mother

The new untitled 30-minute show in Calgary will air weekdays Monday to Friday. The province-wide search for its new local host created a buzz in the industry that lead to today’s early announcement about the new program.

“Due to competitive reasons we can’t reveal too much about the show at this time, except that it will be hosted by a personality well-known in Calgary and throughout most of Alberta,” commented Jamie Haggarty, Executive Vice-President, Television Operations, Rogers Media Television. “We identified an opportunity to engage and interact with Calgarians daily.”

The return of CityNews at six and eleven on weekends in Toronto is another welcomed announcement for Citytv viewers. Anchors of the weekend news will be announced shortly before the program returns to the airwaves in early March.
