Battlestar Galactica creator Ronald D. Moore has signed an exclusive deal with Sony Picture TV.

Moore, who was the brains behind the cult classic as well as its spin-off Caprica, is locked down for two years in the deal which will see him creating projects for both cable and broadcast.

His production company, Tall Ships Productions, will be involved in the future projects for the studio.

Moore is coming off a three-year deal with NBC Universal’s Universal media Studios, which is the home of Battlestar and Caprica.

The 45-year-old will join Smallville creators Al Gough And Miles Millar who both signed two-year deals recently at Sony.

After only nine episodes, CAPRICA has won over critics and viewers, dispelling the myth that most prequels disappoint. On April 17, SPACE re-boots the series for fans wanting to catch-up on the ground-breaking sci-fi drama with a CAPRICA marathon. Starting at 10 a.m. ET, all nine episodes air back-to-back until 8 p.m. ET. The nine remaining Season 1 episodes of this pre-apocalyptic BATTLESTAR GALACTICA prequel are scheduled to air Fall 2010/Winter 2011.

Since its premiere in January, CAPRICA has been the #1 series on SPACE, with an average of more than 200,000 total viewers. Throughout its run, CAPRICA’s total audience grew by 13%, with a mid-season finale drawing in nearly 250,000 viewers on Friday, March 26, making it the #1 non-sports specialty program in its time slot.

Set 58 years before BSG’s galactic war, CAPRICA follows two rival families, the Graystones and the Adamas. Daniel Graystone (Eric Stoltz) is a computer genius and a prominent businessman in the Twelve Colonies. His wife, Amanda Graystone (Paula Malcolmson) is an elite neurosurgeon. Joseph Adama (Esai Morales) is an immigrant, a lawyer with ties to the mob, and a father desperate to reconnect with his estranged son, William (Sina Najafi). Bound, and then divided by tragedy, their bitter rivalry brings the end of life as they know it.

Following the April 17 all-day marathon, SPACE premieres yet another exclusive and revered prime-time series. The much-anticipated new DOCTOR WHO series starring Matt Smith as the new dapper Doctor, blasts off at 9 p.m. ET.
