Canada’s Next Top Model

Tiffany - Canada's Next Top ModelAge: 23
Height: 5’8”
Hometown: Toronto, ON
Occupation: Receptionist

A new mom on maternity leave from her job as a receptionist, Tiffany believes it’s her time to pursue being a model. Giving birth to her son less than a year ago was what actually gave her the courage to try out for CANADA’S NEXT TOP MODEL. “It just allowed me to say, ‘You know what? I can truly do anything.’” She’s ready for the challenges that doing both could entail. “It’s an opportunity to have my face out there and represent Toronto and just prove to those that have kids that you don’t just have to be a mom. You can do other things as well and follow through with your dream,” she says.

Tiffany might just have realized she could be a model but it’s something her friends and family have known for a long time. Ever since she’s been a teenager, people have been telling her she’s beautiful and should consider modeling. “I felt like these people are being really nice, it’s a compliment but I never took it seriously.”

Her love of fashion stems back to elementary school, where she used to sketch her own clothing designs after being inspired by watching FASHIONTELEVISION. Now a fan of Canadian clothing lines Franke and DSquared², Tiffany loves to express herself by wearing bright and bold colours and wouldn’t rule out designing her own shoe or handbag line some day.

“I believe I’m CANADA’S NEXT TOP MODEL because I want it bad enough. I deserve it. It’s my time to claim it.”

Tara - Canada's Next Top ModelAge: 19

Height: 5’11”
Hometown: Chateauguay, QC
Occupation: Student

A student who was studying Commerce at Vanier College in Montreal before coming to CANADA’S NEXT TOP MODEL, Tara hopes being on the show will help her be discovered as a top model. “I feel like this show is going to open so many doors for me in the future and I can build a career according to how I do here,” says Tara.

Even though her studies are always something to fall back on, Tara is ready for a long career in modeling. “I just don’t want to do it until I’m 30 and leave it. I want to keep doing it until I guess I’m done.”

Tara became interested in modeling after moving from the islands of Seychelles to Montreal when she was 15. It didn’t hurt that everyone thought she had the body of a model and should pursue it as a career. “People would just stop me on the street and tell me,” she says.

She has since done a couple of photo shoots but says making it on the show is her first real break. A former ballet dancer, Tara thinks she is CANADA’S NEXT TOP MODEL because she has both the looks and the personality.

“You have to be able to communicate with the public, with the press, everyone. It’s not just about taking pretty pictures and I think I have a good mixture of both.”

Rebeccah - Canada's Next Top ModelAge: 19
Height: 5’9”
Hometown: Ottawa, ON
Occupation: Retail Sales Associate

With a background in acting and some experience in modeling, Rebeccah hopes being on CANADA’S NEXT TOP MODEL will open up doors to both the stage and the runway. She’s planning on applying to Ryerson University in Toronto next fall and thinks the TV show will be a great addition to her resume – especially if she takes home the top title.

Rebeccah was encouraged to try out for CANADA’S NEXT TOP MODEL by her mom, who is also a big fan of the show. Their favourite episode is the one with the makeovers and Rebeccah can’t wait to be on the show and see what they’re going to do with her hair!

Even though she has experience doing photo shoots and runway shows, Rebeccah got ready for the show by posing in front of the mirror and walking around the house as much as she could in heels, which was met with lots of chuckles from her brother.

Rebeccah cites CANADA’S NEXT TOP MODEL Cycle 2 winner Rebecca Hardy as one of her favourite models because they’re from the same area of Ontario. “It’s so funny when you see her on runways and magazines, and you see a model, but also a person just like me who grew up like me, had friends, went to high school, needed a part time job,” says Rebeccah.

She thinks she’d be a good CANADA’S NEXT TOP MODEL because she’s not afraid to show her personality.

“I’m not afraid to admit that I read comic books, that I don’t like wearing makeup on a day to day basis and I’m just a normal girl who’s trying to live her life and not trying to be this giant star.”

Nikita - Canada's Next Top ModelAge: 20
Height: 5’9”
Hometown: Calgary, AB
Occupation: Sales Rep

She may have just learned to walk, but Nikita’s first runway show at the age of two years old was a sign of things to come. Years later while she was in high school, Nikita was chosen to travel to Asia and model for Singapore Fashion Week. She has since done numerous photo shoots in Calgary and throughout BC. “It’s so much fun,” says Nikita of walking the runway. “It’s like a high almost. It’s unlike anything I’ve ever felt.”

But even with all of this experience under her belt, Nikita is still having a hard time believing she’s made it on to CANADA’S NEXT TOP MODEL. “It’s crazy to be one of the 11 finalists. I would’ve never thought in a hundred years that it would’ve happened to me.”

Jessica Stam, Coco Rocha, Heather Marks and Lily Donaldson are models she says she looks up to for being powerful and determined women. Nikita could fall into this category as well as she warns she won’t be holding back when it comes to the competition.

“I will basically say what everyone, who doesn’t have the courage to say it, is thinking. I’m very outspoken and I get right down to the point. I consider myself pretty real that way.”

Nikita believes she is going to be CANADA’S NEXT TOP MODEL because of her dedication.

“I have a passion for everything in the fashion industry, from photography to designers to clothes. I have a great personality and I think that’s something you really need. You can’t just be a pretty face.”

Meaghan - Canada's Next Top ModelAge: 19
Height: 5’9.5”
Hometown: Winnipeg, MB
Occupation: Retail

Meaghan would do anything to pursue her dream of modeling – even waking up at the crack of dawn. With no CANADA’S NEXT TOP MODEL auditions in her home city of Winnipeg, she woke up at 4 a.m. to board a plane for Toronto. “I was absolutely exhausted throughout the whole day and standing in line for five hours in heels was not the best,” recalls Meaghan with a laugh. “But it was all well worth it.”

Growing up as a tall, lanky tomboy, Meaghan didn’t think modeling was a possibility for her until a couple of years ago when people started telling her she should consider it. But it wasn’t until she made it through the first round of the CANADA’S NEXT TOP MODEL auditions did she actually believe it.

With no previous modeling experience, Meaghan set up a runway of sorts in her basement to practice. “I could not walk in heels to save my life,” admits Meaghan. “I set up a mirror at one end and a mirror at the other and walked back and forth until I got my walk down.”

Currently working at a retail boutique, Meaghan is also studying architecture at the University of Manitoba.

She thinks her lack of experience is actually what would make her a great CANADA’S NEXT TOP MODEL.

“I’m totally green, totally fresh and I think that’s what CANADA’S NEXT TOP MODEL should be. Somebody that has come here, without experience and built to the top … I know I will absorb and learn and as soon as you tell me I’m not going to be able to do something I will prove you wrong.”

Maryam - Canada's Next Top ModelAge: 18
Height: 5’9.5”
Hometown: North Vancouver, BC
Occupation: Student

After immigrating to Canada from Iran two years ago, Maryam feels so grateful to finally have an opportunity to pursue modeling — something she says wasn’t available to her while living in the Middle East. “I’ve been in a country where I didn’t have the freedom to think about it … there are models but they wear scarves,” says Maryam. “I want to represent all the exotic beauty of women that (are) in the Middle Eastern countries that nobody sees.”

Maryam, who admires models like Coco Rocha and Heidi Klum for their strong character, believes people are born with the potential to be a model and feels like she’s had something inside of her since she’s been a little girl. Even though she’s had some previous experience doing photo shoots with local photographers, she hopes being on CANADA’S NEXT TOP MODEL will be the best way to foster that.

Also interested in dentistry, Maryam is currently pursuing a Bachelor of Science at Simon Fraser University. But she’d be willing to put that on hold to become CANADA’S NEXT TOP MODEL and believes she has everything that it takes.

“I have the face to be high fashion because I’m very strong and I practiced for this and worked really hard,” says Maryam.

Linsay - Canada's Next Top ModelAge: 22
Height: 5’9”
Hometown: Edmonton, AB
Occupation: Student

Linsay has almost completed her degree in Child and Youth Care but is ready to make a go at being a TOP MODEL. Whichever career path she chooses, she wants to make a difference. Raised on the Sucker Creek First Nation near Edmonton, Linsay hopes she can inspire other young girls who have had a similar upbringing. “Just for girls who grew up on small reserves, (to let them know) there’s a world out there that they conquer.”

Being chosen as a finalist for CANADA’S NEXT TOP MODEL has already been a life changing experience for Linsay – coming to Toronto was her first time ever on a plane!

Even though she always dreamed of being a model, it wasn’t until walking the runway at Edmonton Fashion Week last year did she believe it could become a reality. “Growing up on a small reserve things like that just seem so far away … when I moved to Edmonton and did my first runway show I was like, ‘I’m a model.’ I believe it.”

As well as modeling, Linsay has enjoyed playing sports since she was very young – she has set records in track and field and was the captain of her high school hockey team. Linsay realizes how diverse her interests are. “I’m a child and youth care worker that plays hockey and models – three worlds that generally don’t go together,” she says with a laugh.

And what does this self-proclaimed “Versace girl” think is going to set her apart in the competition?

“I think I’m CANADA’S NEXT TOP MODEL because I can do this job well and I think I’m wicked at it. And I think there (are) a lot of things I’d like to do with this opportunity.”

Jill - Canada's Next Top ModelAge: 19
Height: 5’8”
Hometown: Vancouver, BC
Occupation: Student

Jill has dreamed of living the glamorous life of a model, jet-setting around the world and wearing expensive clothes, since she’s been a little girl. At 5’8” she always thought she wasn’t tall enough, but when her hairdresser suggested she try out for CANADA’S NEXT TOP MODEL, she thought she’d give it a go. Besides, her favourite supermodel Kate Moss is actually shorter than her at 5’7.” But Jill didn’t think she’d actually make it on the show. “It was a shock. I screamed for about five minutes,” she says.

Currently studying Women’s Studies at Langara College in Vancouver, Jill has always been interested in the world of fashion. She remembers standing in front of the Barbie section at Toys ‘R Us where she was working during high school, looking at their outfits and taking notes. She believes fashion is her personal statement – whether that be “black tights and a baggy T-shirt” one day or “five inch heels and a hot little dress” on another.

Jill thinks her approachable personality will help her become CANADA’S NEXT TOP MODEL. Having done some previous hair modeling, she can’t wait to absorb everything she can about the rest of the industry.

“I’m here to learn so I’m hoping with time Jay (Manuel) will give me some tips and we’ll really rock ‘n roll on this show.”

Heather - Canada's Next Top ModelAge: 21
Height: 5’10”
Hometown: Halifax, NS
Occupation: Student

Heather has wanted to model for as long as she can remember. When she was only seven years old, she used to put on her own mini fashion shows for her parents (or whoever else she could get to watch!). She didn’t know there was such a thing as professional modeling until she discovered FASHIONTELEVISION and quickly became hooked.

Modeling on and off since she’s been 14, Heather had the chance to travel to Paris when she was 16 and do a number of photo shoots, including one in an old boutique hotel with corsets and vintage dresses. Even though she calls it one of the most exciting experiences she’s ever had, she admits she wasn’t quite ready for it at the time. “I was just really shy and when I got there I was kind of culture shocked and it was a little bit scary so I wanted to come home.” But it didn’t stop her from doing local modeling and she’s now ready to take the next step.

Waiting to find out if she made it on to CANADA’S NEXT TOP MODEL was definitely nerve-wracking, she says. “It’s completely surreal. It got to the last day before I got called and I was scared,” says Heather, who cites Linda Evangelista and Heather Marks as her favourite supermodels.

“I think that I’m CANADA’S NEXT TOP MODEL because I have the potential to be a model, but also because I want to show that modeling has more to it than just a pretty face and the right body. I want to show that you can be a strong leader for young girls who I think need something like that right now.”

Ebonie - Canada's Next Top ModelAge: 21
Height: 5’9”
Hometown: Repentigny, QC
Occupation: Receptionist

Ebonie got her start in modeling when she was nine years old after entering a Hawaiian Tropic contest. She didn’t win but says the experience instilled a love of the business in her. “The thrill that I had when I got on that stage, with my family cheering for me and everyone looking, from that day on I said I want to be a model and I have never ever stopped.”

Born in Canada, Ebonie spent the first few years of her life in her mom’s home country of The Bahamas and then moved to Montreal when she was about five years old. Blessed with a naturally thin body, Ebonie recalls working at a couple of different fitness centres as a teenager and being asked by her employers to tell the customers she looked that way because she was training there!

As a freelance model, Ebonie has worked with a few local Montreal designers and has been in various fashion shows but thinks CANADA’S NEXT TOP MODEL could take her career to the next level. “It really is a huge deal. I really couldn’t wish for anything better.”

Taking a year off from school, where she was studying Communications, to expand her modeling portfolio, Ebonie is excited about what opportunities could lie ahead.

“I think I’m CANADA’S NEXT TOP MODEL because I fiercely want it. Like in my soul, in my blood, I want this job more than anything in the world and I’ve been working for it my whole entire life.”
