More than 1,000 submissions. Eight top-of-their-field game-playing competitors. Twenty-four mentally and physically gruelling challenges. And now, one winner.
Last night, Discovery Channel’s new breakout hit series, CANADA’S GREATEST KNOW-IT-ALL bestowed the ultimate title and bragging rights to Ted Coffey, 56, of Irricana, AB in its season finale.
CANADA’S GREATEST KNOW-IT-ALL featured 10 of Canada’s biggest self-proclaimed smarties, competing head-to-head in a supersized arena of grit and wit. With physical and mental challenges designed to test their superior knowledge, problem-solving skills, leadership, cooperation and game-playing strategy, this eight-part brains-and-brawn series was the perfect forum to test their mettle.
Under the eye of host Daniel Fathers, they competed with each other and against each other in 24 challenges designed to prove which one of them knew the most about a lot of different stuff – how things are engineered, driven, built, powered, floated and even blown up!
The larger-than-life concept captured the attention of Canadian viewers, reaching more than 1 million viewers during its premiere episode, ranking as Discovery Channel’s #1 series premiere ever.
Ted Coffey, an oil and gas drilling consultant, loves all technology, from nuclear reactors and scanning electron microscopes, to computers and engines of any description. Prior to working in the oil patch, he was a technician and learned to repair on the job. Although Coffey didn’t graduate high school, he runs a drilling rig company, and believes he can do anything better than most PhD “professionals” – including winning the coveted title of CANADA’S GREATEST KNOW-IT-ALL.
Describing his winning strategy, Coffey said “I just kept my head down and worked to help my team.” Laughing, he adds “but in the individual elimination challenges, you just get in there and crush the competition!”
Coffey and his fellow “expert” competitors played to win Round 1 – but the game isn’t over yet. Canada is full of Know-It-Alls! Casting is now underway for Season 2, with production scheduled for June 2012.
