*Six-Part Global Original Reality Series Premiere*

Canadian singing sensation Jann Arden, Simple Plan’s Pierre Bouvier and Rob Van Winkle (AKA Vanilla Ice) judge the performances of 12 workplace glee clubs who try to out- perform each other for their favourite charity. Each episode features two teams with ET Canada’s Hollywood correspondent Matte Babel, guiding viewers and supporting the glee clubs as they go head-to-head in this unique competition. This week it’s “The Zooper Stars” (The Toronto Zoo) vs. “Junk Notes” (1-800-GOT-JUNK?) from Vancouver, BC.

Global announced today that Jann Arden, Simple Plan’s Pierre Bouvier and Rob Van Winkle a.k.a. Vanilla Ice will lead the all-important judging panel for the network’s new original series, Canada Sings.

These three well respected and extremely talented judges are the perfect addition to a breakout series that taps into Canada’s rich and diverse talent pool.

But unlike most typical talent searches, Canada Sings focused its efforts on something truly original and definitely unusual: the workplace.

The result will be the most remarkable and engaging competition ever seen on TV in which 12 workplace glee clubs first try to gel as performers and then try to out dance, out manoeuvre and literally out sing the other teams for a chance to shine on a national stage.

“Canada Sings is not your average singing competition. For most, it’s next to impossible to imagine singing with your boss or workmate in a chorus, but for our twelve courageous teams, it has become an exciting reality,” commented Barb Williams, Senior Vice-President, Content, Shaw Media. “With such heart and soul invested by all the teams and a charitable donation hanging in the balance, I know declaring a winner will be a challenging task, even given the expertise of our judging panel.”

ET Canada’s Hollywood Correspondent, Matte Babel joins the judges as host for Canada Sings guiding the viewers and supporting the glee clubs as they go head-to-head. Each episode of the original series (6×1 hour) will feature two competing teams with the judging panel declaring the winning glee club at the end of the hour. From behind-the-scenes at the intense rehearsals to giving it their all on centre stage, the emotional and physical highs and lows will have Canadians nationwide cheering for their favourite teams. Canada Sings is set to broadcast on Global (date to be confirmed).

With a wide range of hidden and untapped talent, and mere days to perfect their pitch and synchronize their moves, the Canada Sings glee clubs were prepped by coaching duos: choreographer Christian Vincent (Dance Captain for Madonna’s “Drowned World Tour”) paired with vocal coach Sharron Matthews (“The Music Man,” “Hairspray: The Movie”) and choreographer Kelly Konno (Michael Bublé’s “Feeling Good” music video) working alongside vocal coach Scott Henderson (founding member of Juno®-nominated R&B group, The EarthTONES).

Canada Sings is created and produced expressly for Shaw Media by Insight Productions.

Can an office that works together sing together? Global posed the question last summer when it announced Canada Sings!, a truly original series that challenged Canadians to form workplace glee clubs and battle it out in competition for their charity of choice. The teams have been selected and routines decided upon, so now the hard work begins.

“Imagine trying to dance and sing with the person that you normally work with,” said Barb Williams, SVP, Content, Shaw Media. “These people are putting their hearts and souls into this so there’s no doubt we’re going to see some fireworks leading up to the final showdowns.”

Over the next few weeks, cameras will be rolling to capture every second as each team struggles to transition from co-workers to cast members – from the unsteady days of rehearsal to the polished performances. Luckily the newly formed glee clubs will be assisted by world class choreographers Christian Vincent (Dance Captain for Madonna’s “Drowned World Tour”) and Kelly Konno (Michael Bublé’s “Feeling Good” music video) as well as professional vocal coaches Scott Henderson (founding member of Juno®-nominated R&B group, The EarthTONES) and Sharron Matthews (“The Music Man,” “Hairspray: The Movie”).

“We’re so excited about Canada Sings!” said John Brunton, Executive Producer & President of Insight Production Company Ltd. “This original Insight format has captured the attention and enthusiasm of workplaces from coast to coast. From funeral homes to zoos to huge corporations like Air Canada, everybody wants their 15 minutes of fame and everyone wants to be a rock star. Canada Sings! will give them that chance.”

The workplace glee clubs that are gearing up to hone their skills include:

Air Canada
