8:00pm – Wednesday, May 4 on CTV

The Top 5 finalists return to the AMERICAN IDOL stage to perform songs from “now and then” – one current song and one from the 1960s. After the live performances, it is up to America to vote. Tune in to see who amazes the judges and who falls flat.

The Voice is here and it’s giving juggernaut American Idol a run for it’s money.

The show kicked off with a bang on Tuesday night (NBC/CTV) and it didn’t shy away from telling the audience how much it’s NOT Idol. We’ve all seen the promo’s so it wasn’t a complete surprise how “nice” all the judges were. There was no awful singers, no open calls, basically everything Idol is not.

Right off the bat pre-determined (non-filmed) contestants were brought on stage and began singing. The judges (Blake Shelton, Adam Levine, Christina Aguleira, Cee Lo Green) have their backs facing the artist. If they like what they hear they push a button and are turned around to face the artists (I got dizzy a couple of times). If more then one “coach” likes the artist then they must decide who they want to be teamed up with.

It was very interesting to see the reactions of the coaches when they saw the person that was singing. I would have appreciated it more if there was more genuine reactions but something tells me they were told to not make a big deal about it or were doing it out of respect.

Regardless.. it kept me entertained through the entire 2 hour show. If you haven’t guessed I am not the biggest American Idol fan. And this show will only take a couple of months from start to finish. Not like Idol where it’s a 4 month process.

And the viewing public agreed making it the number one show for the night and the best debut for a new series on any network since Undcover Boss (CBS) last year.

The one down fall? Carson Daly. He has never been my cup of tea and this did nothing to help that.

Did you watch? Will it take down Idol? Only time will tell.

The remaining six singers perform live in hopes of making it one step closer to become the next AMERICAN IDOL.

Eliminated American Idol finalist Pia Toscano shows Idol fans what they’re missing on the latest episode of Dancing with the Stars.

8:00pm – Thursday, April 21 on CTV

Season 7 winner David Cook returns to the AMERICAN IDOL stage to perform his new single “The Last Goodbye” before America’s vote is revealed live during the results episode.

Jennifer Lopez has told reporters that she turned down an offer to appear as a judge on The X Factor in favour of and American Idol spot.

The new Idol judge said she discussed an X Factor role but ultimately decided that Idol was a “better fit” for her.

“We did talk about The X Factor for a little bit,” Lopez said. “But at the end of the day, thinking about my career and everything that was going on, when the opportunity to do Idol came along it seemed a better fit.

“Idol has been a show for so many years. It’s an institution. To be involved in something like that felt really great.”

Lopez said she is unsure about how long she will stay on Idol.

“I don’t know if I will do another season. I’m taking it day by day at the moment and we’ll see what happens,” she said. “I’ve been having a great time, I can’t lie. I’m really enjoying it and having fun and enjoying working with the contestants. You can’t help but learn from them.

“You’re talking about performing and singing and when you’re watching them you see them and think, ‘I do that’. It’s been a great exchange back and forth.”

The Top 7 finalists perform live hoping to impress the judges and the nation. Tune in to see who amazes the judges and who falls flat.

He’s doing her, and now … she’s doing his show — TMZ has learned, Pia Toscano will be performing on “Dancing with the Stars” next week … and get this, her new BF Mark Ballas will dance to her music.

It’s been in the works for a while — but the President of Marketing and Communications at Fox Joe Earley initially put the kibosh on the collaboration …  but an hour ago, the deal was sealed.

Pia’s performance signifies a borderline incestuous cross-pollination between the two biggest shows on TV … “American Idol” and “Dancing.”

And if that’s not enough — Pia will be back on “Idol” tomorrow for a special cast-off reunion.
