American Idol Launches to 3.1 Million Viewers on CTV

Winter’s #1 program is back with a vengeance. American Idol returned in force last night and more than 3 million Canadians made an appointment with the juggernaut’s seventh season premiere on CTV. The two-hour program enjoyed a pitch-perfect peak of 3.1 million viewers during the second half-hour. It’s the second consecutive year that American Idol has surpassed the 3 million mark for its premiere. And with a reach of 6.1 million, American Idol was Canada’s most-watched program of the night on any network, in all key demos and every metered market.

In Toronto, last night’s episode bested last year’s premiere performance by 3% overall with close to one in four viewers watching television between 8-10 p.m. ET and nearly 40% of females 18-49 and 25-54 tuning-in.

At 10 p.m., an all-new Law & Order: SVU delivered more than 1.8 million viewers nationally.

Part 2 of CTV’s American Idol Season 7 premiere airs tonight as auditions continue in Dallas – 8 p.m. on CTV (visit CTV.ca to confirm local broadcast times).
