Dragon's Den Season Premiere watched by 1.32 million

The biggest season in Dragons’ Den history scored a massive hit for CBC Television last night, capping off the start of CBC’s fall entertainment lineup.  Over 1.32 million viewers tuned in for the full debut episode of the fourth season, watching aspiring entrepreneurs pitch their business ideas to the Dragons.

CBC Television is off to one of its best seasons ever with strong ratings across the board.  Rick Mercer Report bungeed to 1.295 million viewers on Tuesday at 8 p.m. followed by 22 Minutes with 774,000 and Being Erica with 793,000.  On Wednesday, The Tudors reigned with 835,000 viewers.  Last week saw the debut of The Ron James Show drawing 803,000.

1.9 Million Viewers Watch Nico Archambault Become First Ever Winner of So You Think You Can Dance Canada

Toronto, ON (December 8, 2008) – Last night’s SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE CANADA season finale was watched by a record 1.66 million viewers, the most ever for the series, preliminary data from BBM Nielsen Media Research confirms. The thrilling two-hour finale peaked at 1.9 million viewers when 24-year-old Longueuil, QC dancer Nico Archambault was presented with a cheque for $100,000, the keys to a brand new, 2009 Mercedes-Benz C230 and was named Canada’s Favourite Dancer. In all, more than four million viewers tuned in to some part of the finale, which was the most-watched program on Canadian television last night in its timeslot.

‘A’ Surpasses E! and Citytv to Get Top Marks in Fall Report Card

– ‘A’ leads in key demos nationally and in Vancouver and Toronto –

Toronto, ON (November 6, 2008) – Six weeks into the Fall television season, ‘A’ is now attracting more viewers than E! and Citytv. Nationally and in Vancouver, ‘A’ leads E! and Citytv among both key demos. In Toronto, ‘A’ leads Citytv and competes aggressively with E!, now tying E! among A18-49. The new network has seen dramatic growth in double and even triple digits at the expense of E! and Citytv, both nationally and in the metered markets.

“With a popular mix of comedy, reality and drama, ‘A’ is making the grade this Fall,” said Susanne Boyce, President, Creative, Content and Channels, CTV Inc. “We said in June that the ‘A’ schedule was designed to compete, and it has.”

Fringe beats 90210

Fringe audiences continue to be out of this world. Coming off a #1 super-simulcast debut, last Tuesday, J.J. Abrams’ must-see thriller delivered 819,000 viewers last night, peaking at 905,000 viewers. The second, gripping episode of this fall’s most-watched new series triumphed over 90210 (Global; 790,000) in its time-slot and won the 9 p.m. hour in Toronto and Vancouver. Among A25-54 and A18-49, Fringe was the #2 program of the night behind House in Toronto and Vancouver.*

Also to note:

Nationally, Fringe also bested 90210 among A25-54 (553,000 to 487,000) and equaled 90210 among A18-49 (546,000 to 547,000).

Compared to last week’s series premiere, Fringe boasted double-digit growth with A2+ (45%), A25-54 (64%), and A18-49 (79%) and more than doubled its A18-34 audience.

Fringe delivered more viewers than 90210 in Toronto and Vancouver among total viewers, A25-54 and A18-49.

Grey’s Anatomy is Canada’s Most-Watched Drama in 2007/2008

With 2.6 million viewers scrubbing in for Grey’s Anatomy’s season finale last Thursday, the series has ended the 2007/2008 broadcast season as Canada’s most-watched series overall among key demos and Canada’s #1 drama series among total viewers. With an average audience of 2.5 million viewers this season, Grey’s Anatomy follows only American Idol among total viewers, making it the #1 drama in the country and leading House (Global, 2.17 million) by nearly 15%. Grey’s Anatomy takes over bragging rights from last season’s most-watched drama in Canada, CSI.

Among A25-54, A18-49 and A18-34, Grey’s Anatomy is the champion of the 2007/2008 television season overall, drawing more viewers than any other program on television, including House. Grey’s Anatomy leads House by 9.5% among A25-54; 10.4% among A18-49 and 20.5% among A18-34.

House finale rates highly

The season finale of “House” on Monday, May 19 won the night nationally with audiences both 2+ (2.7 million) and in the key demo A18-49 (1.5million) as well as all metered markets. The finale out-performed its closest competitor of the night, CTV’s “C.S.I Miami”, by 40% with A18-49 nationally.

Viewer favourite “Bones” captured its highest audience this season (Both A18-49 and 2+) as the series drew to a close on Monday night at 8p.m. ET. This outranked CTV’s “Dancing With The Stars” by 42% with viewers A18-49.
